Position Overview:

Northside Charter High School is seeking experienced and enthusiastic Science Teachers for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year. Successful candidates will be responsible for delivering engaging science instruction, fostering critical thinking skills, and contributing to the overall academic excellence of our students.

Responsibilities:

• Plan and implement effective science lessons aligned with the school's curriculum and New York learning standards.
• Integrate scientific theories and principles into lessons, using real-world examples to make the content relatable and engaging.
• Create a dynamic and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and exploration and that fosters curiosity.
• Teach scientific concepts through lectures, hands-on experiments, demonstrations, and multimedia resources.
• Differentiate instruction to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.
• Utilize a variety of assessment methods to measure student progress and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.
• Provide timely and constructive feedback to students to help them improve their knowledge and skills.
• Maintain a well-managed classroom environment by setting clear expectations for behavior and enforcing rules consistently.
• Address disciplinary issues promptly and fairly to minimize disruptions.
• Ensure that the classroom, particularly the laboratory, adheres to all safety regulations and standards.
• Teach and enforce proper safety protocols when conducting experiments and handling scientific equipment.
• Collaborate with colleagues to enhance curriculum and share best practices.
• Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with advancements in science education.
• Participate in school meetings, committees, and activities to contribute to the broader educational community.
• Maintain open and effective communication with parents and guardians regarding student progress, achievements, and any concerns.
• Provide updates through parent-teacher conferences, report cards, and other communication channels.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Science Education or a related field.
• New York State certification in Secondary Science Education preferred
• Strong content knowledge and a passion for science education.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to create a positive and supportive learning environment.

Experience:

• Previous teaching experience at the high school level is preferred but not required.
• Familiarity with inquiry-based and hands-on teaching methodologies.
• Comfort with technology integration in the science classroom.
