Descripción

Loudoun Cares is seeking an Executive Director; the ideal candidate will use a strategic mindset to drive the future success of our nonprofit organization by aligning teams under one vision. With responsibility for all program areas, this candidate will execute all areas of need for the organization including management in the following areas: fiscal, operational, program development, community relations, and board relations. Executive Director reports to, and at the will of the Board of Directors, working closely with the Executive Committee and other committees as assigned to carry out all duties and responsibilities on behalf of the Loudoun Cares.

The Board of Directors, or committee so assigned by the Board, must approve the compensation of the Executive Director annually and in advance including inflation or cost-of- living adjustments. 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

It is the Executive Director’s fundamental responsibility to work with the Board to ensure that Loudoun Cares effectively pursues its mission, fulfills it roles within the nonprofit community, and achieves the stature expected. Both leadership and management of the organization are subject to the wishes and direction of the Board. Primary responsibilities are:

●      Work with the Board to develop, monitor, modify and implement long-range strategies to benefit Loudoun Cares, including budget and organizational development. 

●      Articulate the vision, mission, theory of change, statement of need, and overall strategy and direction of the organization to both internal and external stakeholders.

●      Maintain responsibility for fund development, board support and development, financial management, human resources, operations and technology, program and advocacy, compliance and best practices,

●      Maintain official records and documents and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

 

More specific requirements are detailed below.

Management

●      Develop with the Board both long-term strategic and short-term business plans to increase advancement of Loudoun Cares and its assets.

●      Serve and ensure support all standing Committees of the Board.

●      Supervise staff managers/directors, applicable consultants, and office-based volunteers to ensure effective use of resources and applied use of knowledge and skills essential to the organization.

●      Be responsible for recruitment, employment and release of all personnel, both paid staff and volunteers. 

●      Ensure that job descriptions are developed, that regular performance reviews are held and that sound human resource practices are in place.

●      Ensure that an effective management team with appropriate provision for succession is in place. 

●      Encourage staff and volunteer development and education,  and assist program staff in relating their specialized work to the total program of the organization.

●      Maintain a climate that attracts keeps and motivates a diverse staff and Board of top quality people. 

Financial Development

●      Ensure the proper administration of Loudoun Cares funds and commitments to meet all fiduciary and legal requirements.

●      Develop, present for approval, and report upon the annual budget in conjunction with the Treasurer and Executive Committee.

●      Ensure that adequate funds are available to permit the organization to carry out its work.

●      Jointly, with the president and secretary of the board of directors, conduct official correspondence of the organization and, jointly with designated officers, execute legal documents. 

●      Ensure presentation of reports and systems required to ensure professional asset management and investment review.

●      Work with the Board and staff to build relationships with individual, corporate, and foundation donors to strengthen relationships and create new funds.

●      Oversee continuing relationships with existing donors to ensure proper management of Loudoun Cares programs and administration of its donor funds.

●      Maintain and develop giving alternatives for bequests and other forms of planned gifts.

Board of Directors Relations

●      With the Board or Board’s executive committee, set annual performance goals which will be the basis of an annual performance review to be conducted by the Board or by the Board’s Executive Committee.

●      Use a comprehensive strategic plan that has been developed in conjunction with the Board, and supplement it with monthly progress reports.

●      Provide the Board with relevant materials before board meetings and explain why the materials are coming to the attention of the board. 

●      Engage in board and board committee discussions so that the board stays focused on the larger issues.

External Representation

●      Assume a visible role in the community, serving as a sounding board for needs and proposals, and as an advocate for Loudoun Cares role and potential opportunities.

●      Represent the company at social and corporate events in ways that strengthen the brand and communicate the company’s message

●      Ensure public outreach and public relations plans are in place and implemented.

●      Promote active and broad participation by volunteers in all areas of the organization’s work

●      Establish sound working relationships and cooperative relationships with community groups and organizations 

●      Acts as the official spokesperson of the organization, including contact with the media

Specific Skills and Knowledge

●      Minimum five years in-depth knowledge of and commitment to the nonprofit sector at a senior staff or executive level.

●      A four-year degree or equivalent.

●      Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting best practices and systems.

●      Experience in supervision of staff.

●      Experience in public presentation and representation including the ability to work effectively with well-connected individual, community, institutional, and governmental leaders.

●      Experience working with volunteers and a demonstrated ability to work effectively with of service to the Board and committees.

●      Leadership, drive, vision, and an inspirational commitment to the community foundation model

●      Persons working in this position are expected to possess:

●      Strong oral and written communication skills particularly related to financial information and community issues related to our mission (e.g., housing instability, volunteerism)

●      An ability to use computer software including, but not limited to word-processing, email, spreadsheets, databases, and integrated financial applications

●      Capacity to work independently in a productive manner with no supervision

●     Ability for occasional regional travel

●     Ability to work some evenings and weekends

Compensation Package

●      Salary midpoint is $73,000

●      Observe all Federal Holidays
