LOCATION

DOROT Westchester, located in White Plains, is a satellite location to our NYC headquarters. Working in a hybrid model, the Social Worker and Community Programs Administrator will divide their time working remotely, in the field, and 2-3 days per week in the White Plains office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

ABOUT DOROT

Founded in 1976, DOROT (“generations” in Hebrew) facilitates a dynamic partnership between older adults, volunteers, and professionals to address the challenges of an aging population. DOROT is dedicated to enhancing the lives of older adults to help them live more independently and as valued community members. Compassionate care and a commitment to excellence are hallmarks of DOROT’s programs and staff. The agency is a recognized innovative leader in mobilizing volunteers and community and supportive services. Comprehensive programs – conducted onsite, in the home, remotely, and in the community – combat loneliness and social isolation. DOROT's headquarters are on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. DOROT expanded its volunteer visiting programs to Westchester in 2005, skillfully matching older adults with volunteers for various home-based social programs. By late 2022, programs were also being introduced in Westchester community spaces, giving older adults opportunities to come together with peers to connect, learn and enjoy a variety of activities, including those that provide intergenerational engagement with local teens. DOROT Westchester is innovating and growing, seeking to engage more older adults and volunteers in more communities throughout the county, while expanding the scope of our community partnerships.

THE OPPORTUNITY

DOROT Westchester’s Social Workers provide case assistance and support to a broad spectrum of older adults across Westchester County. This includes conducting a comprehensive, psychosocial, in-home assessment of new clients and follow-up assessments with ongoing clients. Follow-up assessments are imperative to confirm a client’s ongoing appropriateness for program attendance or need for additional services and are conducted bi-annually for our older adults. Social Workers also participate in, and support DOROT’s volunteer programs including skillfully matching volunteers with seniors based on shared interests for regular visits or telephone calls and supporting those matches for both the older adult and volunteer.

Primary Responsibilities:

Manage a caseload of older adults participating in DOROT’s visiting programs, providing ongoing support to both the older adults and volunteer in each match.

  • Conduct in-home assessments (both initial and reassessment).
  • Provide short-term case assistance, information, referral, and advocacy to older adults participating in visiting programs and their caregivers as needs arise.
  • Collaborate with the social work team and other staff to integrate older adults into DOROT programs – home visiting, community-based events and access-from-anywhere programs.
  • Screen, match, and train volunteers paired with older adults for visiting programs.
  • Collect, track, and maintain case assessment and related client interactions using the DOROT online database (Salesforce) and the Westchester County database (Peer Place).
  • Play a role in the analysis of program/project impact, helping to identify gaps and develop recommendations for program improvement.
  • Facilitate or co-facilitate support or psychoeducational groups.
  • Represent DOROT at community outreach meetings and conferences.
  • Network with local agencies and organizations.
  • Contribute to special projects as assigned by the Manager of Visiting Programs or Regional Director of DOROT Westchester.

Qualifications

  • LMSW required.
  • 1+ years of professional social work experience working with an older adult population.
  • Experience with facilitating group programs – support, psychoeducational and recreational/social.
  • Outstanding organizational and time-management skills.
  • Demonstrated strong clinical assessment skills.
  • Skilled with verbal and written communication.
  • Collaborative mindset and strong interpersonal competencies.
  • Work both independently and as part of a coordinated team.
  • Comfort working with a wide variety of individuals; previous work with older adults a plus.
  • A flexible schedule, with availability to work occasional evening and weekend hours to accommodate programs including four Sundays per year for agency-wide Package Delivery programs.
  • Knowledge of MS Office preferred.
  • Ability to work at least once per month in the Manhattan office.
  • Driver’s License and access to a car.
  • Bilingual Spanish a plus.
