Job Title: Recruitment, Training, & Clinical Coordinator

Department: Legal, Organizing, & Advocacy

Reports to: Director of Legal, Organizing, & Advocacy (program)

Deputy Director of LOA (reporting & administration)

Location: Main Office, 45 Wadsworth Avenue, New York, NY 10033

FLSA Status: Exempt

Model: Hybrid, average 3 days per week in office


SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

A management position in NMIC’s Legal, Organizing, & Advocacy Department (LOA) responsible for leading recruitment efforts for all LOA attorney positions, developing pro bono partnerships, managing clinical programs, and coordinating department-wide legal training. This position will focus on expanding the pipeline for legal talent and training available to support and expand NMIC’s representation and advocacy services. It will operate under a matrix reporting relationship where the department director is the primary supervisor and oversees all programmatic work while the deputy director is the supporting supervisor and oversees all reporting, contracting, and compliance work. These responsibilities are closely related, and the Director and Deputy Director will coordinate their supervision to this end pursuant to NMIC’s matrix management model.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Recruitment Responsibilities

• Create an internship program model for seasonal and year around clinical providers including interns, externs, emeritus volunteers, and pro bono scholars that each LOA unit can implement.

• Foster partnerships with law school programs nationwide.

• Coordinate recruitment efforts with relevant stakeholders, including the Office of Court Administration, the New York State Bar Association, and the New York City Bar Association.

• Work with LOA leadership staff to identify and foster relationships with private law firms for potential pro bono partnerships. Coordinate outreach efforts to establish pro bono partnerships with those law firms.

• Assist unit leaders in coordinating hiring efforts to attract talented candidates for open positions.

• Support recruitment and staff retention by coordinating with LOA leadership to ensure job conditions and policies remain competitive with the market.

• Coordinate LOA's recruitment budget in collaboration with LOA’s Deputy Director to ensure it is used effectively by staff.

Pro Bono Responsibilities

• Expand NMIC’s pro bono partnerships and broaden the scope of opportunities available for pro bono partners.

• Create an onboarding program for LOA’s pro bono attorneys.

• Provide counsel to pro bono attorneys providing representation to LOA clients in collaboration with LOA leadership.

• Provide supervision to clinical providers representing and/or participating in the representation of LOA clients in coordination with LOA leadership staff and other assigned attorneys.

• Ensure that pro bono partners have access to existing NMIC trainings to provide substantive guidance on partnered cases.

• Coordinate LOA's pro bono budget in collaboration with LOA’s Deputy Director to ensure it is used effectively by staff.

Training Responsibilities

• Collaborate with department leadership to successfully apply for Accredited Provider Status with the New York State Office of Court Administration. Ensure compliance with OCA Continuing Legal Education (CLE) program requirements once approved.

• Collaborate with department leadership and HR to create an onboarding training program for new attorneys, paralegals and interns.

• Coordinate with appropriate leadership staff to identify training needs for clinical providers and support the development of training materials where necessary.

• Organize and maintain orientation and training pathways for staff and volunteers in coordination with leadership staff.

• Coordinate LOA's training budget in collaboration with LOA’s Deputy Director to ensure it is used effectively by staff.

• Develop opportunities for LOA staff development through peer training.

• Coordinate external trainings for community partners.

Additional tasks may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• J.D. Law Degree/LL.M. with admission to the New York State Bar or willingness to take exam.

• Experience working with similar populations in a community-based setting strongly preferred.

• Experience with networking and excellent communication skills strongly preferred.

• Three years of litigation supervision and/or relevant support experience strongly preferred.

• Relevant litigation and court experience preferred.

• Experience identifying, developing, and executing training opportunities for staff and volunteers preferred.

• Bilingual skills in English/Spanish are helpful but not required.


SALARY/BENEFITS: NMIC offers a competitive salary based on experience and education as well as a comprehensive and generous benefits package: medical, dental, life, and disability insurance are included; paid time off consisting of 20 vacation days, 15 sick days, 5 personal days, 11 agency holidays, plus the week off from Christmas Eve through New Year's Day; a 401k with agency contribution; and other benefits.

The salary range for this position is $90,000-$100,000.
