USGBC California Operations Manager

Join our growing team and support the US Green Building Council - California’s (USGBC-CA) programs and initiatives in leading the statewide Green Building Movement. As our Operations Manager, you will be the lead for keeping the USGBC-CA engine running across systems, human resources, insurance, contracting, and more. This position is slated to begin April 1, 2024 and will be an integral part of our small, but mighty USGBC-CA team.

The ideal candidate is passionate about sustainability as a tool to drive cultural change and are interested in being mission control to help deliver our collective impact to the communities we serve. They are interested in how to empower our team to be effective and efficient and are innovative yet detail oriented, flexible, and ready to get in the trenches to make things happen. 

TASKS:

Provide support for all operations, including but not limited to: 

  • Assist with long-term planning to create and execute on initiatives that improve the team’s overall performance, including technology and learning opportunities
  • Ensure “onboarding” and tight coordination with other regions in California that are unifying operations statewide under our organizational umbrella
  • Manage the staffing process, including recruiting, interviewing, hiring and onboarding 
  • Develop training materials and performance management programs to help ensure employees understand their job responsibilities
  • Ensure the organization’s compliance with local, state and federal regulations
  • Develop and implement performance management tools to provide guidance and feedback to the team, including performance and compensation reviews
  • Utilize payroll software and liaison with payroll provider
  • Work with benefits provider to manage benefits enrollment and participation
  • Manage our tenant relationship at the La Kretz Innovation Campus in downtown LA, or future satellite workspaces as needed, and facilitate staff use of facilities
  • Recommend ways to reduce costs and enhance revenue
  • Support budgeting and financial reporting as needed
  • Support insurance, contracting, IT, and other operations as needed
  • Manage interns and/or volunteers to help achieve organizational goals

SKILLS NEEDED:

Applicant must be knowledgeable with:

  • GSuite, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel or similar programs, with experience administering Google accounts preferred.
  • Understanding of payroll software, benefits, and general human resources principles
  • Understanding of general budgeting processes and GAAP
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and efficiently with all levels of management and with community members.
  • Ability to lead, inspire, and motivate others.
  • Desire to learn, adapt, and explore new skills, technology, and workflow processes.

TIME COMMITMENT & COMPENSATION:

This is a full-time, partially remote position. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
