The Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations is responsible for leading relationships and maximizing corporate, foundation and government grant support for operating and capital campaign donations. This position supports the CEO, Chief Philanthropy and Communications Officer. Key to this position is the creation of an annual corporate and foundation strategy. The Director supervises the Foundation Relations Manager.

 

Administration:

  • Manage a portfolio of 50 -75 corporate and foundation prospects, responsible for advancing relationships of more than $100,000 and campaign grants exceeding $1,000,000  on behalf of The Inn and for carrying out cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities.
  • Develop and execute strategies to increase corporate and foundation funding. Build and strengthen relationships with existing partners and identify new prospects through research to develop a pipeline of future prospects to increase or exceed revenue goals annually.
  • Manage outreach and relationships with government officials and the Maryland Hospital Association to win public support for capital projects.
  • Represent The Inn by presenting The Inn’s case for support to corporations and foundations both local and national.
  • Develop and submit proposals and progress reports to private and public funding sources with a focus on independent and corporate foundations.
  • In conjunction with the Director of Development Operations:
  • Continually assess the capacity of the prospect pool to ensure that the campaign is positioned to meet its fundraising targets.
  • Coordinate and support campaign research for institutional funding.
  • Fully use the Salesforce Foundations module to track progress.
  • Works in conjunction with Manager of Corporate Partnerships and Events to advise on corporate partnership opportunities for The Inn’s programmatic and fundraising priorities, including sponsorships, in-kind donations, volunteer opportunities, special events, and other unique programs.
  • Oversees workplace giving to ensure timely and successful submission for the CFC and associated federated campaigns.
  • Work closely with the Chief Philanthropy and Communications Officer on creation and management of the department’s budget.
  • Work with the Chief Philanthropy and Communications Officer to ensure that strategic planning goals align with corporate and foundation fundraising projections in the short and long term and assist in development of evaluation systems.  
  • Raise public awareness by conducting tours and representing The Inn at speaking engagements.
  • Support all development communications activities and attend meetings and other community events as assigned.
  • Work with the communications and marketing staff to determine development content for brochures, newsletters, website, reports and social media posts.
  • Consistent with The Inn’s risk management plan, monitor and assess risk related to reputation, impact on strategy mission and fundraising/corporate social responsibility, as well as adhering to regulatory licensing and tax requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Personnel Management:

Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate the work performance of the Foundation Relations Manager.


Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.


Experience:

  • Ten years experience in fundraising with demonstrated success in the field of corporate and foundation fundraising and related foundation roles and success in proposal writing, research, and reports. Must have experience speaking in public, managing budgets, and creating income plans/projections, and working with corporate partners. Supervisory experience is required. Raiser’s Edge/Salesforce experience preferred. Knowledge of the local community is helpful. 


Skills/Traits:

Demonstrates maturity, creativity, and self-motivation. Must have strong organizational, managerial, and communications skills. Must be comfortable with public speaking and asking the public for financial and in-kind donations. Should be friendly and tactful with a compassionate personality. Must be flexible.  Attention to detail and follow-through are essential. Should have a positive attitude and work well in a team-oriented environment. Must be open to all and comfortable with a variety of lifestyles.  Must provide own transportation to events.

 

Schedule:

Must be willing to participate in evening and weekend fundraising and public relations activities.  Official schedule is Monday through Friday.
