PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Become an intern with the foundation of one of the most influential and oldest continuously published Black newspapers in the nation, The New York Amsterdam News. The list of prominent women and men of color who started their careers at the AmNews is long and we want your help to build upon that legacy.
This longstanding and recently expanded internship program is Intent on building tomorrow’s journalists and publishers of color, to ensure the sustainability of black newspapers and overall newsroom diversity nationwide. Through the generosity of our donors, each intern receives a modest stipend of $250 in addition to any academic credit their school may provide, for their participation in this rigorous career development program.
Interns can apply to Fall, Winter/Spring or Summer Internship openings for in-person or remote opportunities from 10 hours to 20 hours weekly - all structured to build teamwork and leadership skills as well as provide substantial resume building and career development opportunities. Participants will also be provided with significant SEO opportunities to boost their professional profiles plus ongoing references as they seek opportunities in media or other fields.
Interns will be given “hands on” experience from Amsterdam News staff team members in print and digital journalism plus career development. Interns will be selected for one of three disciplines based on their preference and evaluation of their respective writing skills 1) Social Media 2) Digital Content 3) Editorial Newsroom Journalism (Print/Digital). Each week the intern class will meet on Zoom for in depth LinkedIn profile enhancement, networking on LinkedIn and other career development opportunities.

For Summer 2024 Internship Class - Applicants should submit by MIDNIGHT Monday May 20, 2024.
All applicants will be notified by email by May 31, 2024 or before, by one of the Amsterdam News Educational Foundation or Amsterdam News team.
Our 2024 Summer interns will begin the week of June 5, 2024 upon which all class members will choose the hours and days for their work at Amsterdam News that best dovetails with their academic and other priorities. And select a day and time for their class team career/networking development sessions - one that works for all members of the class.
