LA Health Action is a project of The California Endowment and Community Partners. LA Health Action was created in 2003 by The California Endowment to direct the Los Angeles Access to Health initiative. LA Health Action’s overarching goal is to improve community health through strategic alliances and policy advocacy. Its 2008 strategic policy priorities include advocacy to promote children’s health, to protect the County’s fragile safety net system against state and county budget deficits and to improve community health in South Los Angeles.

The California Endowment, established in 1996, is a private, statewide health care foundation with approximately $3 billion in assets. Since its inception, the Endowment has made roughly 3,400 grants totaling more than $1 billion to community-based organizations throughout the state. Its mission is to expand access to affordable, quality healthcare for underserved individuals and communities, and to promote fundamental improvements in the health status of all Californians.

Community Partners was established in 1992 and is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity that provides program and administrative support to new community projects. LA Health Action employees are employees of Community Partners.
