Asian Community Mental Health Services (ACMHS), a nonprofit community based agency in the East Bay, was founded in 1974 to fill the void in behavioral health care for the Asian Pacific Islander (API) community. Its mission is to provide and advocate for multicultural, multilingual family services that empower people to lead healthy, productive and self-sufficient lives. Each year in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties, ACMHS' 100 staff provide services in 12 languages to over 3000 immigrant and refugee children, adolescents, adults, families, and seniors, the majority of whom are below the poverty level.
