Friends of Stryker Park is committed to transform the north side of West 97th Street between Columbus and Amsterdam Avenues into a greener and safer pedestrian plaza. The sidewalk is unusually wide, about 50 feet, and a full city block long. It’s mostly concrete, poorly maintained and pretty bleak. There are seven active driveways, all unmarked and potentially dangerous. In addition, the area just to the west of P.S. 163 is currently used by the New York City Parks Dept. for vehicle and equipment storage. Friends of Stryker Park believes this is rather poor use of precious public space and would like repurpose this area for public use.
