Ecological gardening and sustainable building in a post earthquake area in Croatia

Suncokret Centre for Community Development works in a rural postwar area. We have created a volunteer centre and local community centre. At the local volunteer center we are building solar showers, composting toilets, composts, creating ecological and sustainble gardens and orchards. We also build with strawbales, recycled materials and practice sustainable building. We built solar showers and a strawbale tool shed and a local style wood house that will eventually become our giftshop for locally made products. We plan to renovate our compost WC and continue our sustainable gardening and construction activities

We run both a volunteer center and a community center where we work with local children and youth. At the Suncokret community center we provide after school programs for the local children in the community (from Bosnian Croat refugee and Serb returnee families) where we provide everything from educational activities, tutoring, homework help to games, sports, fun and creative workshops. We also conduct eco gardening and maintaining our organic gardens and orchards and conduct eco construction on occasion.

At the moment we are in partnership running the following:

Suncokret Center for Community Development: afterschool non formal learning activities, arts, crafts, sports, games and play for children and youth and we work with the partners below and conduct similar activities as in Suncokret.

Kids Earth Fund Croatia: arts and crafts for children and youth, eco gardening and eco/sustainability activities

In Glina we are working with persons affected by the 2020 earthquakes, creating a children's and youth program with arts, crafts, dance, and sports . Visiting elderly temporarily displaced due to the earthquakes.
