Prepare for a Children's Performance at a Non-Profit NYC Theater

Single Day Volunteer Opportunity: Help Set-up for our Annual Spring Children's Theatre Performance on 6/13/2024 at The Actors Theatre Workshop!   

Help prepare The Actors Theatre Workshop (“ATW”) for our Spring 2024 Children’s Theatre Performance Event. Prepare the facility for the celebratory performance and student graduation of Builders of the New World (“BNW”) program – ATW's award-winning after-school theater-arts education program, which has been serving homeless and at-risk youth living in NYC's temporary housing facilities since 1995. When: 

Monday, June 10th from 12:00pm-5:00pm 

Monday, June 10th from 5:00pm-9:00pm

Wednesday, June 12th from 12:00pm-5:00pm

Wednesday, June 12th from 5:00pm-9:00pm

Thursday, June 13th from 11am-4pm

What you will do:

• Mount and Hang children’s artwork and stories
• Finalize, print and fold event programs
• Set up chairs for audience
• Prepare our set design
• Adjust lighting
• Beautify the space: do light repairs and light cleaning - sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning windows and other surfaces, picking up and disposing of odd-shaped or odd-textured items that cannot be swept or vacuumed. 
• Light lifting and climbing on a ladder or step stool is required for much of this work. We have 10’ ceilings and therefore use 6’ - 8’ ladders to hang decorations.
• For volunteers comfortable using tools: small repairs include tightening screws, using a hammer and nails or a staple gun to fasten items.
• Organizing on-site equipment and supplies to create space for storing supplies and donations. This would include lifting and moving boxes and furniture.
• Purchasing supplies, if we run out, or picking up purchased or donated supplies. (ATW will provide funds for this.)

Other important info:

• The day’s events will be videotaped & photographed for our program documentation and communication purposes. Volunteers must be comfortable with this. We will distribute Video Releases to each volunteer when they arrive to review and sign.
• Participants must dress comfortably: sneakers / flat shoes and clothes they can move around in.
• Participants who sign-up should arrive PROMPTLY and stay for the whole event. If a volunteer knows in advance that s/he cannot come or cannot stay for the whole event, we'd appreciate that s/he release their spot as soon as they know to allow someone who can stay for the whole event the opportunity to sign-up.
• Please bring a can-do attitude to the work for the day!
