The AmeriCorps VISTA position is a full-time, 12-month paid volunteer assignment based in Compton, CA. Under the supervision of the Manager of Violence Interruption, The Violence Interruption Initiative VISTA will focus on providing operational and administrative support to the Manager of Violence Interruption and Peace Building Team to provide services, resources and training to the Compton Survival Initiative: Safety, Transformation, Outreach, Peace (CSI STOP). The goal of CSI STOP is to reduce communal and interpersonal violence in Compton and contribute to EntreNous Youth Empowerment Services, Inc’s commitment to provide opportunities to end poverty, an underlying cause of violence.

PLEASE NOTE: The AmeriCorps Volunteers in Service to America’s (VISTA) mission is to strengthen organizations that alleviate poverty through volunteering and the mobilization of resources. AmeriCorps VISTA members build capacity in nonprofit organizations and public agencies to help them more effectively generate the commitment of private sector resources, encourage volunteer service at the local level, and empower individuals and communities. You will not be working directly with participants.


Compton YouthBuild, a division of EntreNous Youth Empowerment Services is a workforce and leadership development program for young people ages 16 to 24 that live in economically underserved communities. Young people learn leadership, advocacy and workforce readiness skills, while they earn an accredited high school diploma and industry recognized certifications. We are a full-time, project-based program focused on social justice and restorative practices that allows young people to develop skills needed to rebuild their communities and their lives.


Activities include, but are not limited to:


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


  • Support the Manager of Violence Interruption and Peace Building Team by providing operational and administrative support in implementing and operating the Compton Survival Initiative: Safety, Transformation Outreach Peace (CSI STOP).
  • Help to meet underlying financial, employment, educational, and housing needs for individuals who are prone to utilize violence. 
  • Support with qualitative and quantitative data collection for CSI STOP.
  • Foster program awareness within the Compton community.
  • Communicate program information both in verbal and written form.
  • Perform related work as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • College degree required, preferred in a business related field
  • Previous experience in a nonprofit setting, preferred
  • 1-year experience working with young adults, preferred
  • Experience working with at-risk youth or in a violence prevention/ gang intervention program, preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Suite, etc
  • Skills in data entry and data collection
  • Experience in record keeping, filing systems, and database management.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Availability to work some weekends and evenings
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to effectively communicate with participants, staff, management, and community partners.
  • CA Driver’s License, reliable transportation, adequate insurance, and good driving record required
  • Positive and Flexible self-starter who can work independently and in a team environment


Job Type: Full-Time Volunteer Year of Service


Living Allowance paid through AmeriCorps: $26,798 per year/ $1,027.48 biweekly (pre-tax)

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.


All persons entering the building are required to observe the organization's protocols regarding COVID-19 including but not limited to wearing masks, temperature checks, social distancing and completion of a daily PreWorkScreen self-health assessment.


As a condition to the commencement of your service, ENYES requires proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 with updated boosters. You are considered fully vaccinated two (2) weeks after your second dose in a two-dose series, such as the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, or two (2) weeks after a single-dose vaccine, such as the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
