Lead Platform Engineer

Winnable seeks an experienced application developer to act as the technical lead for development of a digital organizing platform, and to support additional custom project work. This will be the company’s first dedicated engineering hire, working closely with leadership and external stakeholders.

The Lead Platform Engineer will report to the CTO and assist in technical design and architecture, setting standards, implementing features, and addressing bugs.

This would be a full-stack developer role, with both frontend and backend work.

While this role is primarily centered on writing code and shipping features, it will also involve helping to evaluate and mentor future team members. This is an individual contributor position, but as the company grows, opportunities for a transition to a management role may be available for those who are interested.

In the first 3-6 months, the Lead Platform Engineer will assist in shipping numerous features in advance of a v1 platform launch and provide technical support as early adopters are onboarded. The Developer will also help establish best practices and processes around testing, security, and maintenance of the platform.

The role would include direct interaction with clients.

There is no minimum educational requirement.

As Winnable is both a startup and a company working with nonprofits and political campaigns, candidates must be able to operate with a high degree of autonomy amidst rapidly changing needs, occasional time-crunches driven by the campaign cycle, and rapidly evolving processes. Role type

Winnable will consider full-time hires or contract-to-hire models for this role, depending on candidate background and experience.

For a contract-to-hire, compensation will be commensurate with the intended full-time salary. Conversion to full-time would be based on mutual fit and business needs after 3-6 months under contract.

Minimum technical skills

• 5+ years development experience with Go, or a similar backend language;
• General familiarity with common web application stacks;
• Experience with Google Cloud Platform;
• Experience with git and team coding environments.

Recommended technical skills

• Experience developing Node.js backend services;
• Experience with frontends written primarily in vanilla JavaScript;
• Familiarity implementing and/or maintaining DevOps processes.

Additional skills

• Excellent communication abilities, both internally with leadership and with clients;
• Willingness to participate in broad discussions around application roadmaps and overall strategy;
• Experience and comfort working from home with limited direct oversight;
• Demonstrated ability to find training resources and self-teach new technical skills;
• General comfort working in atypical, non-corporate environments without rigid process guardrails;
• A passion for advancing progressive causes via mobilization and campaigning;
• Experience working on political campaigns or adjacent organizations is strongly preferred, but not strictly required.

Compensation and benefits

Candidates should expect an annual salary or compensation of $110,000-150,000.

Candidates must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and authorized to work in the United States. This role is fully remote within the U.S. with a flexible work schedule. Reasonable availability during Central Time business hours will be required.
