    Shoreline became one of the fifteen two-year and four-year institutions in the United States to receive a 2021 AANAPISI grant from the US Department of Education. The purpose of the grant is to build and expand Shoreline's capacity to serve Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, low income, and first-generation students. The grant enabled Shoreline to create a holistic program called WAVES (Worthy of Achievement, Validation, Empowerment and Success) to serve these populations. The AANAPISI Program Specialist position assists the Director in meeting the outcomes of the AANAPISI grant. The Program Specialist will be responsible to: assist students with enrollment and financial aid activities/onboarding and provide ongoing outreach and retention efforts to support cohort students; coordinate with tutoring services the delivery of peer tutors; assist with development and implementation of orientation; plan and implement academic activities and campus wide events; provide information and expertise to students, instructors, and to others. Collaborate and coordinate with the Director and other constituents as needed to accomplish and meet the AANAPISI project's goals, objectives, and outcomes.

    • non-permanent Classified position. Non-permanent appointments will not exceed eighteen (18) months.

    This is a grant funded position for five years ending on September 30, 2026. This grant is on Y4.Primary responsibilities include the following:

    • Work directly with Project Director on complex protocols and procedures to ensure Shoreline Community College remains in compliance with the grant guidelines including tracking and reporting, meet yearly objectives so the college can continue to receive funding on a yearly basis.
    • Edit and publish the WAVES newsletter and other communications and prepare and deliver public presentations for student outreach, recruitment and retention under general supervision of the Director. Work with the other Program Specialist to help coordinate activities of student employees.
    • Coordinate with faculty members and directors for tutoring within WAVES Center designated courses.
    • Work with AANAPISI prospective, new, and transfer students from initial contact through enrollment and completion with close collaboration with Advising, Enrollment, Financial Aid, Tutors Center, and other appropriate departments.
    • Assist in managing the WAVES API Student Center.
    • Collaborate with Project Director to design and hold WAVES orientation, plan and implement activities and at least three campus-wide learning events each year of the grant that align with the grant objectives and speak to the equity gaps and barriers for AAPI and low-income students.
    • Perform other duties as assigned (of a similar nature or level).

    • Bachelor's degree OR 4 years or equivalent education/experiences working with AAPI populations.

    Skill In/Knowledge Of:

    • Proficient knowledge of Asian Pacific Islander student concerns and community relations, preferably in the Pacific Northwest region
    • Experience researching, writing, and editing articles, reports, and/or press releases for public dissemination.
    • At least 2 years previous successful tutorial experience OR equivalent research experience and education in Asian American/Pacific Islander studies and/or comparative race and ethnic studies.
    • Microsoft Office Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, and Word programs, Zoom and other internet applications.
    • Electronic data record systems such as Starfish, or similar
    • Fostering a climate of equity and belonging through multicultural awareness and responsiveness.
    • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
    • Self-management and responsibility to meet priorities.
    • Excellent attention to detail in producing information, completing documents, and entering and/or retrieving data accurately in computerized record keeping systems.
    • Developing, maintaining, and ensuring the confidentiality of student files and program data in compliance with FERPA
    • Flexibility, with an attitude of cooperation and the ability to establish/maintain effective working relationships at all organizational levels.
    • Ability to work with a diverse group of students, staff, and the public in a friendly, courteous and helpful manner.
    • Experience navigating community college system (professional experience or as a student)

    Conditions of Employment Physical Work Environment: The College is currently providing services in a mixed modality of operations (both online and in-person services are offered). This position will perform work in a standard office setting, use standard office equipment and physically attend meetings both on and off campus, using the ability to communicate in person or through appropriate means. This position may work weekends and evenings when appropriate or needed is required.

    Terms Of Employment/Salary: Per the Collective Bargaining Agreement by and between The State of Washington and the Washington Federation of State Employees Article 4.4, Section D.1., Non-Permanent Employment - Classified positions, the Employer may make classified non-permanent appointments to fill in for the following categories: a. For the absence of a permanent Classified employee (including breaks/meals, absences, etc.), b. During a workload peak, c. While recruitment is being conducted, d. To reduce the possible effects of a layoff, e. When the nature of the work occurs at irregular intervals or does not fit a particular pattern. Non-permanent appointments will not exceed eighteen (18) months. This position is allocated to pay range 42 under the Washington State Office of Financial Management higher education salary schedule. Salary placement for new employees is determined by the College. Hiring of this position is contingent on available funding as determined by the College President.
