    About the Justice Resource Center.

    The Justice Resource Center (JRC) is a leading law-related education and civic ed provider. The JRC is a public/private partnership established in 1991, whose mandate is to develop, implement, replicate and evaluate law-related education projects which impact positively on the school-age population in the United States. Originating in New York City, the focus has expanded to the national and international level.

    As a leading law-related education and civic ed provider, we offer programs geared to a diverse school-age population representing great disparate ethnic, racial, and socio-economic groups, enabling students to learn about the functions of government, their roles and responsibilities as citizens, and to develop a heightened respect for the law.

    Serving as a clearinghouse for effective projects, the JRC administers and/or facilitates twenty-three different programs that include but are not limited to Mock Trial, Moot Court, Law Days, court visits, Bill of Rights competitions, Public Policy programs, role plays of Supreme Court cases, internships, work-based learning experiences, Judiciary and Arts programs and teacher professional development.

    Position Overview

    The program manager would need to be a self-starter, taking the initiative to see a project from start to finish. Mock Trial, Moot Court and the Judiciary and the Arts would be the initial assignments with the understanding that the program manager would assist with other program managers as needed.

    Moot Court:

    • Program Managers will manage school registration forms and keep an up-to-date database.
    • Program Managers will assist in recruiting volunteer lawyer coaches.
    • Program Managers will assist in facilitating rounds, including, but not limited to, checking-in schools, taking team photos, and collecting & recording scoresheets.
    • Program Managers will be available to correspond with Moot Court participants and will send participants necessary documents, memos, schedules and announcements.
    • Work with the Law school facilitator to disseminate moot court materials, secure space and food for participants.
    • Prepare a final report for Executive Director to submit to funders and board members.

    Mock Trial:

    • Program Manager will manage school registration forms and keep an up-to-date database.
    • Program Managers will assist in recruiting volunteer lawyer coaches and judges.
    • Program Managers will assist in facilitating Mock Trial rounds, including, but not limited to, checking in schools and collecting scoresheets.
    • Program Managers will be available to correspond with Mock Trial participants and will send participants necessary documents, memos, schedules and announcements.
    • Work with NYSBA to disseminate case and report any issues related to the multiple-elimination tournament.
    • Must be very flexible with time on mock trial dates as they are not all during regular work hours.

    Judiciary and the Arts:

    • Recruit and manage teachers for the program.
    • Create database, disseminate program materials and information.
    • Collaborate with stakeholders including judges and court personnel.
    • Collect student data for reports to funders and the JRC board members.
    • Flexible time on certain days
    • Assist with a gallery -hop at the courts.

    Reporting Relationship

    The program manager would work directly under the Executive Director and the Executive Assistant.

    Relationship Building

    • Excellent relationship-building skills, facilitation skills, and the ability to support JRC teams to advance their goals.
    • Approaches work with a stakeholder-focused mindset, considers the experience of stakeholders when executing tasks and proactively identifies solutions. Stakeholders include, but not limited to, teachers, students, lawyers, judges, NYCODE managers, and law-related agency personnel. Establishing trust with internal and external stakeholders is critical to this position.
    • Emotional intelligence and empathy. The ability to acknowledge the achievements of others, to share credit and to welcome feedback.

    Flexibility

    • Should be able to multi-task, switch directions and take on new assignments quickly and graciously.
    • Must be willing to work after hours on certain projects.

    Qualifications:

    Undergraduate 4-year degree and 2 years prior experience in schools, operations or administration in public, non-profit or govt agencies.

    Preferred background in education, or public policy.

    Must demonstrate project management skills, collaborating with a team, and effectively managing stakeholders.

    Fluent in various digital and software programs (Excel, Word & PowerPoint).

    Excellent oral and written communication skills.
