    Location: Remote or Jackson, MS (Hybrid Optional)

    Classification: Contract/Temporary

    Term: 3-6 months (with option to extend)

    Hours: Part-time or full-time (to be determined)

    Supervisory Function: None

    Works under the direction of the Communications Director

    Role Purpose:

    The Contract Communications Associate provides interim communications execution support during a transition period while the Foundation for the Mid South recruits a permanent Communications Associate. This role focuses on maintaining continuity across content development, digital communications, campaigns, and reporting under the direction of the Communications Director.

    This is a hands-on, execution-focused contract role designed to ensure communications operations remain consistent, timely, and aligned with organizational priorities. This role does not include supervisory or managerial authority.

    Scope of Work:

    The scope of work may be adjusted based on organizational priorities during the contract term.

    Content & Storytelling

      • Draft and edit content for newsletters, email campaigns, website updates, blog posts, and print materials
      • Support messaging aligned with the Foundation’s strategic priorities and initiatives
      • Collect and shape stories from programs, grantees, partners, and staff
      • Assist in translating impact and outcomes into accessible narratives
      • Support routine website updates, including page edits, content uploads, and basic content maintenance

    Digital & Social Media

      • Support content scheduling and posting across social media platforms
    • Draft platform-appropriate copy and basic graphics using tools such as Canva and Adobe
    • Monitor engagement and assist with basic performance summaries
    • Support accessibility best practices, including alt-text and captions

    Communications & Reporting Support

    • Draft press releases, announcements, and media materials for review
    • Maintain media lists and communications contact databases
    • Support internal communications and staff updates
    • Help ensure brand consistency across all communications
    • Assist with preparing communications reports and summaries for leadership and board materials, as directed
    • Support donor and fundraising communications materials, as directed

    Events & Campaigns

      • Provide communications support for events, campaigns, and special initiatives
      • Assist with event promotion materials, invitations, and post-event communications
    • Support communications for events, campaigns, and special initiatives
    • Assist with promotional materials, invitations, and post-event recaps
    • Coordinate with internal teams to gather assets and timelines

    Administrative & Project Support

      • Maintain communications calendars, trackers, and content archives
      • Support workflows, deadlines, and approvals
      • Coordinate with staff to gather information and meet timelines

    Deliverables & Success Indicators

    • Consistent production of high-quality, on-brand communications materials
    • On-time execution of scheduled content and campaigns
    • Clear documentation and handoff materials for incoming permanent staff
    • Documentation and handoff of communications processes and materials prior to contract conclusion
    • Maintained continuity of communications during the transition period

    Nível de Proficiência do Idioma

    Qualifications:

    Education: Bachelor’s degree in communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field (or equivalent experience)

    Experience: 3+ years of experience in communications, public relations, journalism, or digital content development; nonprofit or mission-driven experience preferred.

    Skills:

      • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
      • Experience supporting communications plans or campaigns.
      • Experience managing social media content.
      • Familiarity with digital tools such as Canva, Adobe, CMS platforms, SharePoint, and email tools.
      • Strong organization and deadline management.

    Contract Terms:

    • This role is classified as an independent contractor and is not eligible for employee benefits.
    • This is a temporary position and may conclude earlier upon the successful hiring and onboarding of a permanent Communications Associate.
    • Compensation will be determined based on the scope of work, hours, and experience.
    • The contractor will work under the direction of the Chief Strategy Officer and will not have decision-making or strategic authority
    • The contractor will be required to sign a confidentiality and non-disclosure agreement.
    • The contractor will determine the methods and approach used to complete assigned work, within agreed-upon timelines and deliverables.

    Compensation will be determined by experience, availability, and scope of work.
