    Executive Director Job Description

    Reports to: Board of Directors

    Location: 3553 W. Vernor Hwy., Suite D, Detroit, MI

    Effective Date: January 2026

    Organization Overview

    All Saints Literacy Center (ASLC) equips adult learners with reading, writing, math, and English-language skills needed to thrive in today’s world. Through individualized tutoring in a welcoming community environment, ASLC serves adult learners across Southwest Detroit who face barriers to education, employment, and civic participation.

    Position Summary

    All Saints Literacy Center seeks a strategic, mission-driven Executive Director to lead the organization into its next phase of growth and community impact. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director serves as ASLC’s chief executive and public representative, responsible for organizational leadership, fundraising, partnerships, program excellence, and financial sustainability.

    This role requires a hands-on leader who can build revenue, strengthen community presence, develop staff and volunteers, and position ASLC as a leading adult literacy provider in Detroit.

    Key Responsibilities

    Strategic Leadership & Board Partnership

    • Partner with the Board of Directors to shape and execute ASLC’s strategic direction, annual priorities, and long-term sustainability plan.
    • Provide clear reporting on organizational performance, finances, program outcomes, and risks.
    • Engage board members as ambassadors, fundraisers, and community connectors.
    • Ensure strong governance, compliance, and ethical operations.

    External Relations & Community Partnerships

    • Serve as the primary spokesperson and public face of ASLC.
    • Build and maintain partnerships with regional adult education providers, workforce agencies, funders, faith-based partners, and community organizations.
    • Represent ASLC with local and state agencies, including literacy coalitions and education networks.
    • Increase ASLC’s visibility across Detroit through outreach, presentations, and media engagement.

    Fundraising & Financial Sustainability

    • Lead development and execution of a diversified fundraising strategy, including grants, individual donors, foundations, corporate partners, and special events.
    • Cultivate and steward key donors and funders.
    • Ensure timely grant reporting and funder communications.
    • Oversee budgeting, financial controls, and resource allocation in partnership with the board treasurer and finance support.

    Organizational & Program Management

    • Lead, hire, supervise, and develop staff and key volunteers.
    • Build a positive, mission-centered organizational culture grounded in respect, accountability, and inclusion.
    • Ensure high-quality tutoring, volunteer training, and learner services.
    • Oversee administrative operations, contracts, compliance, and risk management.
    • Implement systems to track program outcomes and organizational performance.

    • Ensure ASLC remains welcoming and accessible to the communities it serves.

    Qualifications

    Experience

    • Minimum 3–5 years leadership experience in adult education, nonprofit management, or related fields.
    • Demonstrated success in fundraising, grant writing, or donor engagement.
    • Experience managing staff and volunteers.
    • Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree in education, nonprofit management, or related field preferred.

    • Excellent written, verbal, and public speaking abilities.
    • Financial and operational management capability.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial nonprofit environment.
    • High integrity, transparency, and professionalism.
    • Technology proficiency: Google Workspace, QuickBooks, Canva; familiarity with learning management or CRM systems a plus.
    • Spanish/English bilingual ability highly desirable.

    Compensation

    Salary range: $60,000 – $70,000, commensurate with experience. Generous paid time off and flexible scheduling.
