Detalhes
Descrição
Bring the Magic of Summer Camp to the School Year!
Location: San Leandro, CA | Type: Full-Time (30 hrs/week) | Pay: $27–$29/hr
Do you remember the energy, the songs, and the deep sense of community from your days at Jewish summer camp? At Temple Beth Sholom, we are reimagining the after-school experience by bringing that "camp spirit" to life all year long.
We are looking for an infectiously positive, high-energy Lead Teacher to help steer our unique five-day-per-week youth program. If you love engaging with elementary-aged kids, value Jewish culture, and believe that play is the highest form of learning, we want to meet you. This is a rare role that offers the heart of camp counseling with the stability of professional hours and full benefits.
Why You’ll Love Working Here
- True Work-Life Balance: A 30-hour work week that qualifies for a full suite of benefits.
- A Culture of Care: We don't just teach; we practice non-violent communication and restorative justice.
- Meaningful Community: Work in a diverse, inclusive Jewish environment that honors a wide range of identities.
- Total Rewards: Competitive pay, health care reimbursement, retirement planning, and professional development.
- Rest & Reflection: Enjoy paid time off for both Federal and Jewish holidays.
The Role
As our Lead Teacher, you are the heartbeat of the daily program. You’ll partner with our Youth Programs Director to create a space where students in grades TK–5th feel seen, supported, and excited to learn.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead with Heart: Step in as program lead when the director is away; maintain a safe, joyful, and organized environment.
- Creative Programming: Design and implement hands-on lessons in Hebrew, Judaic studies, Art, STEM, and Outdoor Ed.
- Safe Passage: Drive our 6-passenger minivan to local schools to safely transport our campers to the site.
- Growth & Support: Work closely with neurodivergent students using strengths-based strategies and inclusive care.
- Community Connection: Act as a warm, professional point of contact for parents and families through regular communication.
- Active Play: Be ready to move! Whether it’s leading a sports clinic or a restorative justice circle, you are right in the mix with the kids.
Who You Are
- Experienced: You have a background in Jewish summer camps, youth programs, or learning spaces.
- Qualified: You understand child development and Social Emotional Learning (SEL). Leadership experience is a major plus!
- Dynamic: You can pivot from a quiet homework session to a high-energy playground game without missing a beat.
- Committed: You hold a valid Driver’s License and are ready to pass a Livescan background check.
- Capable: You are physically active—able to lift 25–50 lbs and keep up with the physical demands of an active playground.
- Bonus Points for: A "specialty" (music, gardening, art, or farming).
- Familiarity with Hebrew or Jewish customs and traditions.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $27.00 - $29.00 per hour
- Health: Health Care Benefits, Dental and Vision
- Future: Retirement Plan
- Time Off: Monthly accruing PTO plus paid Jewish and Federal holidays
- Development: Dedicated budget for professional growth and training
