    Descrição

    Everytown for Gun Safety, the nation’s largest gun violence prevention advocacy group, is seeking to fill a Research Associate role. The Everytown Research Department studies how gun violence occurs in America and identifies the best policies and interventions to prevent and address it. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting descriptive data analyses and visualizations, as well as research reviews and reports that advance the science of gun violence prevention. You will also support the work of Everytown Labs, an innovation hub within the organization that accelerates promising technology including artificial intelligence, through project coordination, data vetting, and analysis.

    This is a full time position based in New York, NY, with a three-day in-office hybrid work environment. The Research Associate will report directly to the Research Director, with a dotted line to the Senior Director of Everytown Labs.

    Key responsibilities:

    • Oversee the day-to-day operations of EveryShot, Everytown for Gun Safety’s near real-time AI tool that tracks gun violence across the United States
    • Conduct quality assurance on EveryShot’s data at least twice weekly
    • Contribute to the ongoing validation of EveryShot data
    • Assist in the analysis and visualization of EveryShot trend and insight reports
    • Contribute to the collection, cleaning, analysis (e.g., descriptive trends and basic inferential statistics), and dashboard visualization of other local and national sources of gun violence data
    • Actively contribute to Everytown Research products, including online reports, peer-reviewed manuscripts, conference presentations, and other research products
    • Assist with a range of research and data inquiries posed by colleagues in the development, legislative, and other Everytown departments
    • Serve as a research representative on relevant internal working groups
    • Focus on topic areas such as firearm trafficking, industry accountability, and economic impacts of gun violence (prior expertise in these topic areas not required)
    • Assist with Everytown Research and Everytown Labs project coordination, especially across departments and consultants
    • Identify optimizations, enhancements, and use cases where AI can enhance Everytown’s broader impacts

    Qualifications:

    • Master’s degree with a social science, public health, public policy, data science, or other related field or a Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of research and data experience.
    • Experience working in R, Tableau, and Excel
    • Familiarity with basic quantitative and statistical methodologies
    • Basic AI literacy required, deeper knowledge a plus
    • At ease juggling multiple, competing priorities in a high-paced work environment
    • Creative thinking and problem-solving, enthusiasm for brainstorming research and policy ideas, and ability to quickly learn new systems
    • Strong work ethic and collaborative worker
    • Comfort working in a busy, open-plan office
    • Exceptional attention to detail
    • Strong writer and communicator
