DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR & GRANT WRITER JOB DESCRIPTION
We all really matter (WARM) is the leading grassroots, minority-led, non-profit provider of comprehensive services for victims of domestic violence in Harlem and the South Bronx. WARM’s mission is to prevent and interrupt the cycle of abuse for women living in disenfranchised communities of color.
Reporting directly to the CEO/Founder, with wide latitude for independent judgment, the Director of Development will serve as a member of the Executive Management Team. The director will be the liaison to the development committee of the board of directors and key organization staff as WARM continues its growth.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Development Strategy & Revenue Growth
- Develop and implement W.A.R.M.’s annual and multi-year fundraising and institutional development strategy.
- Establish annual fundraising goals in partnership with executive leadership.
- Develop strategies to diversify W.A.R.M.’s revenue across government, foundation, corporate, philanthropic, and other institutional sources.
- Identify funding opportunities that support existing programs as well as W.A.R.M.’s strategic growth and expansion.
- Develop a long-term institutional funding pipeline that reduces dependence on any single funding source.
- Provide executive leadership with regular analysis of funding opportunities, risks, priorities, deadlines, and revenue projections.
- Support organizational planning by identifying emerging funding trends affecting domestic violence, victim services, supportive housing, mental health, workforce development, economic empowerment, and community-based services.
Government Grants & RFP Management
- Identify and evaluate relevant city, state, and federal government RFPs, RFQs, NOFOs, discretionary funding opportunities, and other competitive solicitations.
- Lead the development of highly competitive government grant proposals.
- Review RFPs in their entirety and develop internal proposal workplans identifying requirements, deadlines, responsibilities, attachments, budgets, certifications, and submission requirements.
- Ensure every proposal clearly and completely responds to the funder’s scope of work, evaluation criteria, program requirements, and performance expectations.
- Coordinate proposal development across program, fiscal, executive, operations, and administrative teams.
- Manage multiple concurrent proposals while maintaining strict adherence to submission deadlines.
- Maintain knowledge of government procurement systems, funding cycles, contracting requirements, and relevant regulatory expectations.
- Coordinate final proposal review and approval with executive leadership before submission.
Grant Writing & Proposal Development
- Serve as W.A.R.M.’s lead grant writer.
- Research, write, edit, and submit compelling proposals, concept papers, letters of inquiry, grant applications, renewal requests, and other funding submissions.
- Translate W.A.R.M.’s programs and impact into persuasive, data-informed narratives.
- Develop strong responses addressing organizational capacity, community need, program design, implementation, staffing, partnerships, outcomes, performance measurement, sustainability, equity, and organizational experience.
- Maintain and continuously improve W.A.R.M.’s core organizational narratives and proposal language.
- Review previously submitted W.A.R.M. proposals and appropriately adapt successful content for new funding opportunities while ensuring each response is customized to the specific solicitation.
- Work with program leadership to develop measurable goals, objectives, deliverables, and outcomes.
- Partner with fiscal leadership to ensure proposal narratives, staffing plans, program models, and budgets are aligned.
Proven record of personally writing funded government proposals of $500,000 plus and proposals for unrestricted funds to foundations/corporations
Strong development leadership, project management, and budgeting skills
Salary: $125,000
