    Descrição

    WHO WE ARE:

The Gender Equality Law Center is a not -or-profit law firm and advocacy center based in Brooklyn, New York, serving for the most part low-income women, girls and members of one or more LGBTQ + communities. Our mission is to advance laws and policies that will breakdown historical barriers premised on outdated gender-based stereotypes that limit the ability of individuals to achieve a full measure of economic security and equal opportunity to advance in our society. Because so many cases of gender-based discrimination intersect with other forms of bias or prejudice most of our legal involve claims for gender discrimination plus race, national origin, disability and immigration status bias. All of our legal services are pro bono.

GELC’s programmatic work falls into three main areas:

    (1) direct legal services, including providing responses to our callers on our legal hotline and online written portal submission form, limited legal representation and full-scale litigation in a variety of federal, state and local courts and administrative agencies.

    (2) legislative and policy advocacy to help promote and pass legislation that will further protect against gender-based discrimination on behalf of women, girls and LGBTQ + individuals.

    (3) Education and training work to help inform the public about their rights to be free of gender-based discrimination in the workplace, in school settings and in various other aspects of participation in U.S. society.

The major focus of our work falls into three subject matter areas:
