    ABOUT THE ROLE

Dream Defenders is building power at the end of the world — and we need operational brilliance to help us do it. As our Deputy Organizing Director, you’ll be the bridge between big vision and everyday execution. You’ll provide direct coaching to member leaders, manage internal working groups and core team spaces, and ensure our squaDDs and organizers are aligned, trained, and moving in step with our goals. You’ll serve as a thought partner to the Organizing Director, helping to shape and implement strategies that build people power across the country.

This is a people-first, structure-loving role for someone who can bring calm, clarity, and cadence to a fast-moving, values-driven organizing department.

    LOCATION

Remote with frequent travel required. East Coast preferred; other locations considered within U.S. for exceptional candidates

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Team Oversight & Member Development

    • Manage regional organizers and organizer fellows through regular 1:1s, coaching, and supporting their alignment with department goals.
    • Stay actively engaged in on-the-ground organizing, working alongside members and squaDDs to deepen relationships, sharpen political development, and increase organizing capacity.
    • Ensure squaDDs stay on track with quarterly and annual development goals, monitoring basebuilding progress in EveryAction, and address any challenges blocking momentum.

Internal Infrastructure & Working Group Coordination

    • Support the Organizing Director in rebuilding the department’s structure, systems, and team rhythm by helping implement new systems, workflows, and accountability tools across the organizing team.
    • Coordinate Member Working Groups and Core Team spaces by creating templates, coaching facilitators, and supporting time-bound follow-through.
    • Maintain and populate the Member Onboarding Portal and Member Job Board with tasks and opportunities for member engagement aligned with organizational priorities.
    • Enter and assign team tasks in Asana to track and drive progress on department-wide OKRs.

    Strategic Planning & Execution

    • Support the execution of national programming, including organizing schools, assemblies, campaign actions, and town halls.
    • Help maintain SOPs, internal workflows, and organizational infrastructure that enables members and staff to thrive.

    Evaluation, Accountability & Reporting

    • Collaborate with the Data Team to track member and team engagement.
    • Regularly monitor internal dashboards and produce summaries that reflect progress, gaps, and resource needs.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • 4+ years of experience in organizing, campaign work, or membership-based movement building.
    • Demonstrated skill in coaching, supervising, or mentoring emerging leaders.
    • Experience managing people and/or political education spaces with care and clarity.
    • Familiarity with project management and data management tools like Asana, EveryAction, G-Suite, and Slack.
    • Strong facilitation and coordination skills — especially across teams with diverse roles and priorities.
    • Commitment to abolition, Black liberation, and grassroots political development.
    • Clear, thoughtful communicator who knows how to move between strategy and action.

THIS ROLE IS FOR YOU IF YOU:

    • Are passionate about helping others lead and win
    • Disciplined and eager to get things done
    • Can keep track of 20 moving parts without losing sight of the bigger picture
    • Thrive in an environment where you’re trusted with responsibility
    • Have a deep belief in grassroots power and a strong political compass
    • Ready to inspire folks towards action

    About Dream Defenders

Dream Defenders is a membership-based organization of diverse youth, young adults and students fighting for a better future across the state of Florida. Established in 2012 in response to the unjust murder of 17-year old Trayvon Martin, we organize campaigns, services, and political-education programming. Today, Florida’s young people are experiencing ever increasing violence, incarceration, poverty and profit for a few. Tomorrow, through building deep, local power in our communities, we will make Florida a place where everyone’s most basic needs are met - safety, food, shelter, healthcare and education.
