    Our Why and What We Do:

    Teach Plus is a national nonprofit whose mission is to empower excellent, experienced, and diverse teachers to take leadership over key policy and practice issues that advance equity, opportunity, and student access. At the heart of our work is developing teacher leadership and voice in pursuit of student success. We believe that investing in our most talented teachers—developing them into well-informed, persuasive leaders—gives them deep leverage in elevating the most pressing education issues facing students, teachers, and communities while advancing opportunities and outcomes for students. Through our Policy Fellowship and Instructional Leadership programs, we inspire and equip teachers to ignite systems change at multiple levels. Learn more at teachplus.org

    In Pennsylvania, Teach Plus has grown from one program in Philadelphia in 2017 to multiple programs across the state, including the Teaching Policy Fellowship, the Philadelphia and Southwest PA Affinity Group Networks, the Pennsylvania Literacy Coalition, and a forthcoming literacy pilot in southwest PA. Our teacher leaders have successfully advanced policies on early literacy, teacher diversity, and school funding, and have partnered with schools to improve instruction and student outcomes. The Pennsylvania region fundraises and operates a budget of over $2M each year across programs throughout the commonwealth.

    What You’ll Do:

    Teach Plus Pennsylvania is seeking a Director of Development to collaborate closely with the PA Executive Director to lead all local fundraising efforts for our Pennsylvania region. This role will report directly to the PA Executive Director and work closely with the National Development Team to sustain and grow philanthropic support from institutional, corporate, and individual donors. The Director of Development will create and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy aligned to our regional growth and impact goals, and serve as a key external ambassador for the region’s work. The position requires a highly organized and self-motivated professional who has experience managing diverse funding sources and pipelines, including philanthropy, major gifts, and individual giving efforts, exercises the highest level of discretion, and can work independently while coordinating with team members located in multiple locations toward meeting the region’s total annual fundraising goal of $2M+. This is a unique opportunity to join a passionate, mission-driven team and play a critical role in ensuring teachers are supported as agents of change in Pennsylvania’s education system.

    Responsibilities:

    • Alongside the PA Executive Director, lead the design and implementation of a multi-year fundraising strategy for the Pennsylvania region to achieve ambitious annual fundraising goals ($2M+) to support regional programming and expansion;
    • Support the Executive Director in managing and empowering the Pennsylvania regional advisory board as a fundraising and networking body, including supporting board member recruitment and engagement, working with board members to meet their individual give/gets, and working closely with board leadership to plan and facilitate board meetings;
    • Plan and execute one large annual spring fundraising event in Philadelphia, along with other smaller cultivation events; this will include event/program planning, board member engagement in the event through an event committee, pursuing sponsorships, and ensuring attendance by our target audience;
    • Lead preparation for and follow-up from funder meetings in partnership with PA Executive Director, including researching and preparing briefing materials, managing funder pipelines, attending funder meetings and supporting funder relationships as needed, and documenting information from meetings and building our informational intelligence;
    • Manage a portfolio of current and prospective institutional, corporate, and individual donors, including designing cultivation plans for existing and potential relationships;
    • Expand fundraising pipelines through prospect research and screening, attending events, collaborating with teams on grants, developing relationships with donors, stewardship, and personalized engagement plans;
    • Develop messaging and collateral to support foundation, corporate, and individual giving strategy;
    • In partnership with the Development Team, author LOIs, proposals, reports, concept papers, funder communications, collateral, impact stories, and other documents to support the maintenance of strong relationships and timely submission of grant proposals and reports to funders;
    • Serve as a bridge for cross-functional collaboration across Teach Plus PA and National Development teams to strategically communicate local work more broadly and oversee the production of key collateral and content and project manage key development initiatives;
    • Maintain accurate records of donor interactions and pipeline progress in Salesforce;
    • Work with the National Development team to ensure alignment and compliance with organizational systems and processes.

    What You’ll Need to be Successful

    • A minimum of 3-4 years of relevant experience, including experience cultivating and prospecting funders across foundations, individual, and corporate giving;
    • Proven track record of soliciting and closing individual, corporate, and/or foundation gifts and grants;
    • Knowledge of the Pennsylvania philanthropic and education landscape;
    • Experience building a regional development strategy and leading all phases of donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship;
    • Exceptional organizational skills; demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; and ability to meet deadlines;
    • Excellent relationship-building and interpersonal skills;
    • Proven writing, editing, and oral communications skills;
    • Self-motivated, with strong problem-solving abilities and strong attention to detail;
    • Ability to represent Teach Plus PA as an extension of the Executive Director, possessing a commanding professional positioning in high-profile spaces (at grantee convenings, for example)
    • Experience working with Salesforce is a plus;
    • A passionate commitment to advancing equity and improving public education, including supporting outstanding and diverse teachers to contribute to the success of all students.
    • Experience working in schools a significant plus.
