    Organizational Overview

    Collective Power for Reproductive Justice (https://collectivepowerrj.org/) is a national reproductive rights and justice organization dedicated to educating, mentoring, and inspiring new generations of advocates, leaders, and supporters. Combining activism, organizing, leadership training, and reproductive rights movement building, Collective Power promotes an inclusive agenda that advances reproductive rights and health, and social and economic justice.

    Responsibilities:

    The Associate Director of Development and Engagement (AD) manages and coordinates Collective Power’s communications and organizational advancement, holding responsibility for team members’ work to meet goals, shaping a strategic communications vision, and ensuring that all messaging aligns with Collective Power’s mission and vision. The AD will work to raise the organization’s profile as a reproductive justice movement building organization; grow revenue from diverse sources including foundations, the annual appeal, monthly donor program, and program income initiatives; and develop messaging and strategies for increasing support for this work. This role will supervise the Communications Manager and the Development Manager, ensuring that programmatic work and fundraising goals are aligned under a holistic organizational vision and data-informed communications strategy. Reporting to the Director of Generosity, the AD is a thought-partner in major giving and individual fundraising work, and works with the DG to set goals and execute strategies in order to reach new audiences of support. The AD works with the Executive Director and other department leads to set goals for organizational advancement, fundraising, and communications.

    Essential Functions

    Communications and Development Management – 25%

    • Develop a cohesive vision, strategy, and strong visual identity for all organizational communications, including messaging and communication guidelines. Ensure that program, fundraising, event, and all other external materials reflect Collective Power’s brand guidelines and visual identity;
    • Provide oversight of website, social media, print publications, appeals, and other external communications; supervise the Communications Manager in the production and implementation of all communication projects;
    • Create and update crisis communications plans, working with staff and board to manage organizational risk.

    Fund Development – 45%

    • Create and implement longterm, strategic plans for Collective Power’s sustainability and engagement with alumni and other constituents;
    • With the Director of Generosity, develop annual individual fundraising plan; supervise the Development Manager in the execution of fundraising plans for monthly donors, individual donors who are not major donors, the annual appeal, and other development activities;
    • Help develop other revenue goals including revenue from grants and foundations, program income, and other initiatives; implement strategy and plans to meet these goals and develop new funding streams;
    • Oversee Collective Power’s foundation relations work, including prospecting, applications, and stewardship; managing the grants calendar; and supervision of contract grant writers and/or prospect researchers;

    Evaluation and Impact – 20%

    • Create and implement organization-wide strategies for the collection and use of data to effectively communicate the impact of Collective Power’s work;
    • Work closely with the Director of Programs and program managers to ensure that program evaluations produce necessary information; synthesize evaluation data to demonstrate impact to external audiences, including foundation reporting, annual and project-based reports, and program evaluation materials;
    • Support the Data Systems Manager in the implementation of Collective Power’s data strategy.

    Other duties as assigned – 10%

    Qualifications

    We will consider exceptional candidates who demonstrate a strong combination of the specific qualifications and skills described below

    • At least 8 years of experience in fundraising and communications, including demonstrated experience developing and successfully implementing cohesive organizational engagement strategies in the areas of individual fundraising, grants and foundation relations, and/or communications and messaging;
    • Commitment to organizational mission;
    • Supervision experience, including managing a communications and/or development team for at least 3 years;
    • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills. Must be able to produce effective and compelling written materials;
    • Experience with online fundraising, including email solicitation and social media strategies;
    • Highly organized and detail oriented;
    • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively and work successfully with persons of diverse backgrounds, including people with different racial, ethnic and class backgrounds, people of different genders, and people with disabilities;
    • Advanced word processing and data entry skills using Microsoft programs (especially Word and Excel) and Google documents; ability to assess and implement new software;
    • Familiarity with project management software, website content management, and design programs including Photoshop and InDesign is preferable.

    Additional Requirements

    • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including occasional evenings and weekends and overnight travel throughout the year which may include national and international conferences, convenings, trainings, fundraising events, and donor / foundation meetings.

    Physical Demands and Work Environment

    • The physical demands described for this position are that of a typical office environment. Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the functions. Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time in front of a computer screen is an essential aspect of the position. There may be a need to lift and/or move materials or equipment.
    • Work will be performed at the employee’s home office, with occasional travel (as described above).
    • Schedule: Collective Power operates with a 32-hour work week. Our staff may choose to work a 4-day or 5-day week, but must be available during our core work hours, which are generally 9 am – 4 pm Eastern time.
