The mission of Safe Horizon is to provide support, prevent violence, and promote justice for victims of crime and abuse, their families and communities. Since 1978, the organization has been providing services throughout New York City's five boroughs, and is a pioneer in developing programs for crime victims. With a staff of more than 900 and an annual budget of more than $52 million, Safe Horizon is the nation's leading not-for-profit victim assistance organization.
Safe Horizon serves more than 350,000 New Yorkers each year, through more than 108 programs in community offices, courts, police precincts, shelters and schools. A range of assistance is offered to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, the September 11th attacks, elder abuse, stalking, trafficking, torture, and to families who lost loved ones due to a homicide. Services include crisis intervention, counseling, information and referrals, education and training, mediation, advocacy, and practical emergency assistance.
