Habitot Children's Museum

As we seek a new permanent home, Habitot Children's Museum is currently a “Mobile Museum” starting in 2021 after its Berkeley museum space of 22 years was required to close at the start of the pandemic, and when developers purchased the building forcing Habitot out permanently.

While losing our space was unfortunate, launching the Mobile Museum became an opportunity for us to bring our exhibits and programs to new East Bay audiences, including those in under-served neighborhoods.

Mobile Museum Pop-Ups Across the East Bay

Habitot began presenting full-day Mobile Museum events in dozens of outdoor community locations across Alameda and Contra Costa counties in mid-2021. To date, more that 50 events have taken place in parks, libraries, schools, and in other venues for children and families — from Pittsburg to Fremont, Livermore to San Leandro, and all throughout the East Bay.

Tens of thousands of new families, including many babies born during the pandemic, have been introduced to Habitot’s hands-on exhibits, sensory and art activities, and maker programs.

In 2026, Habitot added half-day indoor Sensory Playdates and Build It! Block events to its mix of mobile programs.

Habitot Children's Museum is the East Bay's award-winning hands-on discovery museum for very young children. Over 1,060,000 visitors have enjoyed the museum's interactive exhibits, art programs and classes since its opening in 1998. The mission of Habitot Children's Museum is to help parents and caregivers raise curious, creative and confident children.

More than a place to entertain young children, Habitot provides resources and support for early childhood learning, parenting success, and community connection. Habitot's Family Outreach Program brings thousands of low-income and at-risk children into the museum every year for family connection, support and free visits.
