The Distributed AI Research Institute (DAIR) is an independent organization conducting community-rooted research. It is a globally distributed group of academics, activists, and engineers who believe in technology that benefits everyone.
The Distributed AI Research Institute (DAIR) rings the alarm when AI is used to curb human rights, and imagines new technological futures where technology is used to advance the needs of those at the margins. Our work has identified refugees and gig workers to be populations that are most harmed by AI systems, as they are both the exploited workers fueling AI and those on whom the worst forms of surveillance and automated systems are first experimented on.
