ARF rescues and rehabilitates homeless cat, dogs, kittens, and puppies when humanely and financially feasible while ensuring they receive the proper veterinary care, including spay and neuter, and all necessary vaccinations prior to their adoption. We are a non-profit, non-destroy shelter.

ARF was founded in 1971 as a non-profit, non-destroy shelter. We are staffed mostly by volunteers with some part-time kennel staff. Every animal taken into ARF has a safe place until their forever home is found. We rehome over 100 cats and dogs each year, partnering with local Animal Control Officers, other local shelters, and veterinary professionals to make sure we are making a difference in our community. While we serve the greater Hartford and New Haven regions, we focus on the needs of dogs and cats throughout Connecticut and New England. We also furnish food and pet care supplies for pet owners in need through our outreach.
