    Sobre Nós

    Girls’ Menarche Initiative (GMI) is a non-profit organization in Iganga, Uganda that is committed to provide sustainable menstrual health solutions to the rural communities of Uganda through product provision, gynaecology support, advocacy and education. The goal is to ensure that menstruators show up for activities in schools, families and communities all days, all months.

    GMI took the initiative to reduce the number of school dropouts, suicide attempts, anxiety caused by menstruation through providing information to young people (8 years and above), both girls and boys, in order to change conversations about menstruation.

    Vision statement: Building confidence in communities to break the silence about menstruation.

    Mission: Reach out to schools and communities to change conversations about menstruation, while strengthening the communities.

    Objectives:

    • To increase access to menstrual information and menstrual products to the communities of Uganda
    • To strengthen the capacity of girls, in order for them to overcome the socio-economic barriers that limit their opportunities
    • To empower youth with knowledge and skills that will help them transform their communities
    • To promote humanitarian values and skills among the Ugandan youth through volunteering opportunities
    • To work collaboratively and partner with schools, organizations, youths, global partners, with similar objectives.
