Our mission is to advance public safety by fostering a collaborative network of individuals creating innovative solutions that build resilient communities.
SCOPE USA is a Tampa-based nonprofit that mobilizes university engineering students to build open-source technology for public safety and disaster preparedness and educates communities to be more resilient.
We operate through campus-based "Hubs" where students work in teams to develop real solutions. Our flagship Hub at the University of South Florida has over 100 active members building projects like BullsAID, an emergency response drone platform, and MeshUSF, a mesh communication network designed to keep communities connected when traditional systems fail.
But SCOPE isn't just about technology. We run free community preparedness workshops that equip families, particularly in under-resourced communities, with the knowledge and tools to prepare for emergencies before they happen. We serve two communities simultaneously: the students who gain hands-on engineering experience working on problems that matter, and the neighborhoods that benefit from the technology and education they produce.
Our values are simple: preparation saves lives, technology should serve everyone, and the next generation of engineers should be trained to build for the public good.
