Habitat for Humanity of Wood County believes that every person deserves a decent place to live. Habitat partners with individuals and families in Wood County to help them build or repair a place that they can call home. At Habitat, volunteers are central to our work. Volunteer opporutnities are not just helping to build homes and can include working on a committee to plan an event, helping to support future homeowners, or working on marketing and communications materials. You'll be joining a team of other like-minded people who want a hands-on way to improve their community! Our programs include the following.
Home ownership:
The home ownership program provides low-income families the opportunity to purchase a safe, affordable home. Participating families complete 250-500 "sweat equity" or volunteer hours and commit to paying a no-interest or low-interest mortgage. Homes are constructed by teams of volunteers--no experience is required to help build a home!
Home Repair:
We work with families who need health and safety-related home repairs. We provide repair services at a reduced price, and the homeowner has access to a no-interest loan to cover the remaining cost of the repair work.
