Azura Literacy

At Azura Literacy, we are dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty and fostering upward mobility for children in Arizona’s most under-resourced communities through literacy. We empower struggling readers by providing individualized support to help them become proficient, paving the way for a brighter future.

Azura Literacy is an initiative of Azura that provides a virtual, high-impact tutoring program at no cost to elementary students in foster care and low-income and under-resourced communities across Arizona. The program partners with community volunteers, university internships and work-study programs, and ASU's America Reads program to train community members and university students as high-impact reading tutors. Students attend sessions from home after school, meeting one-on-one with their tutors on Zoom twice a week for as many weeks as needed to achieve grade-level proficiency. Evidence-based assessments and instructional strategies are used to personalize sessions to each student. Students also have 24/7 access to the children's digital library used in their tutoring sessions, increasing book access and leisure reading time for their entire households.
