Mentor Tutor Connection

Mentor Tutor Connection (MTC) is a community-based and supported nonprofit organization that provides tutors for elementary and middle school students in the Los Altos and Mountain View Whisman School Districts, and mentors for high school students enrolled in the Mountain View-Los Altos High School District or at San Jose High School.

Tutoring: For elementary and middle school children, we offer tutoring during the school day under the supervision of the classroom teacher and help with homework in after school programs. Most of the tutoring is in basic skills but subjects can range from reading skills, English, math, and science. We also may assist English language learners or students in special programs such as public speaking or science labs. Our tutors must be high school graduates.

Mentoring: All mentor volunteers are placed at the high school level. Mentors are carefully screened and interviewed by one of our experienced Mentor Program Managers for the purpose of creating a good match with a student who has been referred to the program. Mentor training is provided and ongoing support is available through the Mentor Program Managers. The role of the mentor is to spend time with the student, be a good listener, and provide a positive influence in the student’s life. Our mentors must be at least 22 years of age.
