We are looking for Direct Care Volunteers and Administrative Volunteers.

A Direct Care Volunteer has contact with the patients and their families; however, if you are not comfortable with having direct care right away, you can start as an Administrative Volunteer with us and if and when you feel ready, you can also become a Direct Care Volunteer.

All Volunteers must be able to complete the following paperwork and testing:

      • Complete a volunteer application
      • Provide 2 references, who provide satisfactory reference when contacted
      • Sign a Code of Conduct Attestation statement

      • Sign Permission and complete a Drug Screen, with a satisfactory conclusion of the drug screen check
      • Complete Communicable Disease / Tuberculosis / Health Screening Questionnaire initially and annually
      • Complete a Tuberculin Test
      • Complete Hepatitis B form
      • Complete required training, which is provided by the Volunteer Coordinator

The Administrative Volunteer provides support to office personnel through clerical and administrative functions. These may include making copies, filing, putting admission or volunteer packets together, completing sympathy cards or assisting in other ways (all functions or assistance requested will be taught to Administrative Volunteer). These are wonderful skills that can be used by someone in high school to add to your college application, or if you have an interest in the medical field or social work interest or to add on to your resume for employment or other opportunities you are seeking other areas of interest.

The Administrative Volunteer must be at least 16years of age and possess the following qualifications and Abilities:

      • Work alongside and communicate with the Volunteer Coordinator and other staff members
      • Document time at the office in a binder, maintained in the office.
      • Maintain regular contact with the Volunteer Coordinator, when you are available to come into the office.

The Direct Care Volunteer serves as an additional support to patients and families who are dealing with terminal illness and end-of-life issues. Support is provided in a variety of ways, including companionship and socialization to patients, or offering relief to stressed caregivers. Direct Care Volunteers may also complete tuck-in-calls to patients and families. Initial training and annual training to be a Direct Care Volunteer is provided by the Volunteer Coordinator.

The Direct Care Volunteer must be at least 18 years of age and possess the following qualifications and Abilities:

      • Actively listen and communicate compassionately with patients, families and caregivers at the end-of-life.
      • Ability to work as a team with family members and hospice staff.
      • Be respectful to patients, family belief systems, emotional maturity and sensitivity.
      • Be dependable and have access to reliable transportation.
      • After receiving our training, have the understanding of Hospice philosophy and goals.
      • Willing to participate in continuing education provided by Volunteer Coordinator.
