The Opportunity
Al-Ihsan Canadian Islamic University is seeking an elite financial strategist to serve as University Treasurer. This is a foundational executive role tasked with establishing the financial framework for our British Columbia incorporation and maintaining our Federal regulatory standing.
As we build a world-class institution for authentic Islamic scholarship, we require a Treasurer who can manage complex non-profit fiscal requirements while upholding the highest standards of Amanah (trust) and Ihsan (excellence).
Key Responsibilities
- Dual Incorporation Oversight: Lead the financial documentation and fiscal registration required for both BC Provincial and Federal Canadian incorporation.
- Fiscal Policy Development: Design and implement robust internal controls, transparent reporting systems, and audit-ready financial policies.
- Compliance: Oversee the university's status with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), ensuring all filings meet federal standards for educational non-profits.
- Strategic Budgeting: Collaborate with the Executive Board of Canadian Scholars to manage operational budgets for online and in-person curriculum delivery.
- Fiduciary Reporting: Present quarterly financial health reports to the Board and stakeholders, ensuring full transparency in the use of community funds.
Mandatory Qualifications
To meet our institutional governance and legal requirements, applicants must possess:
- Academic & Professional Credential: A PhD in Islamic Finance, Economics, or a related field from a prestigious, recognized university. (Candidates with a PhD in another field paired with a CPA/CFA designation will also be considered).
- Residency: Current residency in British Columbia is a non-negotiable requirement for provincial board representation.
- Legal Status: Must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
- Expertise: Proven experience in Canadian non-profit accounting, tax law, or high-level corporate financial management.
