The Northwest Railway Museum is seeking friendly and enthusiastic volunteers to join our Docent Program, helping share the Museum’s stories, collections, and working railroad with visitors.
Docents lead guided tours of the Railway History Campus, including the Train Shed Exhibit Hall and the Conservation & Restoration Workshop (CRW). This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy storytelling, engaging with the public, and bringing history to life.
🏛️ What Docents Do
- Lead guided tours for visitors of all ages
- Interpret historic railcars, locomotives, and exhibits
- Share the history of railroading in the Pacific Northwest
- Help visitors understand ongoing restoration and preservation work
No prior museum or docent experience is required. Training and interpretive materials are provided.
📅 Schedule
Docent opportunities are available year-round during Museum operating hours, with schedules based on volunteer availability and visitor demand.
🌟 Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Comfortable speaking to small and large groups
- Interest in history, education, or public engagement
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
