Volunteers spend a short visit with the patient so the caregiver can step away knowing their loved one is not alone.
Your visit might include:
Talking and listening
Holding a hand
Playing a simple game
Listening to music
Looking at photos
Or just sitting quietly together
Volunteers do not provide any medical care. All medical needs are handled by the hospice team before and after the visit. Visits are kept short so the caregiver can return before any medical care is needed.
Your presence provides comfort to the patient and peace of mind to the family.

If you’re curious but not quite ready to jump in, that’s okay too. Many people like to stop by, have a conversation, and see what hospice volunteering is all about.
Fair warning though… once people learn what hospice volunteers do, many say it becomes the most meaningful hour of their week.
