This is a remote, unpaid volunteer role requiring approximately 5–10 hours per week, with flexible scheduling based on proposal deadlines and mutually agreed deliverables. The Volunteer Grant Writer will work closely with organizational leadership and research staff to identify funding opportunities and prepare compelling, funder-ready materials.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Must be a strong writer with excellent editing, proofreading, and research skills.

- Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Interest in nonprofit development, grant writing, international affairs, governance, security studies, public policy, or related fields.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a remote team.
- Familiarity with grant writing, proposal development, fundraising, nonprofit operations, Grants.gov, foundation portals, Google Workspace, or Microsoft Office is preferred but not required.
- Graduate students, early-career professionals, experienced volunteers, and retired development professionals are encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Research and assess public, private, and foundation funding opportunities aligned with GCPA’s priorities.
- Draft, edit, and refine grant proposals, concept notes, letters of inquiry, and supporting narratives.
- Translate research plans, project goals, work plans, and expected outcomes into persuasive funder-facing materials.
- Assist in preparing proposal attachments, including organizational descriptions, staff biographies, budgets, timelines, and evaluation plans.
- Maintain records of prospective funders, grant deadlines, submission requirements, and proposal status.
- Support the preparation of narrative progress reports, impact summaries, and other post-award materials when needed.
- Collaborate with GCPA leadership, researchers, and project staff to ensure proposals accurately reflect organizational capabilities and program objectives.
