Position Overview
A Free Bird is seeking a skilled Volunteer Video Colorist to support post-production efforts across multimedia projects. This role focuses on advanced color correction, masking, and selective color grading, ensuring specific elements within a video can be enhanced or transformed without affecting the rest of the footage (e.g., isolating and recoloring a product while maintaining overall color balance).
This is an ideal opportunity for someone with strong technical editing skills who wants to apply their craft to meaningful, mission-driven content.
Responsibilities
Color Correction & Enhancement
Perform color correction to ensure accurate lighting, white balance, and skin tones
Enhance footage quality for consistency and visual clarity
Selective Color Editing & Masking (Key Focus)
Isolate specific objects or areas within footage using masking techniques
Recolor or enhance targeted elements (e.g., changing object colors while preserving the rest of the frame)
Maintain natural integration of edited elements within the scene
Color Grading & Creative Direction
Apply color grading styles that enhance mood, tone, and storytelling
Align visuals with branding and creative direction
Collaboration & Workflow
Work closely with video editors, marketing, and creative teams
Incorporate feedback and revisions efficiently
Manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
Quality Control
Ensure visual consistency across clips and final outputs
Review exports for color accuracy and technical quality
Qualifications
1-2 years of Experience with video editing/color tools (DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or similar)
Strong understanding of masking, tracking, and selective color grading techniques
Knowledge of color theory, lighting, and visual storytelling
Familiarity with video formats, codecs, and export settings
Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
Portfolio or demo reel showcasing color work (especially masking/recoloring) strongly preferred

Volunteer position
Remote
5–10 hours per week
Minimum over 3-month commitment
Additional Information
Flexible schedule with asynchronous work
Must have access to editing software, a computer, and reliable internet
Occasional virtual check-ins may be required
