Volunteer Video Colorist (Post-Production & Effects)

    A Free Bird | Remote

    About A Free Bird

A Free Bird is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that empowers children affected by cancer through the healing power of the arts. We support young artists through programs in visual arts, music, writing, acting, and more—helping them find hope, creativity, and self-expression.

    Position Overview

A Free Bird is seeking a skilled Volunteer Video Colorist to support post-production efforts across multimedia projects. This role focuses on advanced color correction, masking, and selective color grading, ensuring specific elements within a video can be enhanced or transformed without affecting the rest of the footage (e.g., isolating and recoloring a product while maintaining overall color balance).

This is an ideal opportunity for someone with strong technical editing skills who wants to apply their craft to meaningful, mission-driven content.

    Responsibilities

    Color Correction & Enhancement

Perform color correction to ensure accurate lighting, white balance, and skin tones

Enhance footage quality for consistency and visual clarity

Selective Color Editing & Masking (Key Focus)

Isolate specific objects or areas within footage using masking techniques

Recolor or enhance targeted elements (e.g., changing object colors while preserving the rest of the frame)

Maintain natural integration of edited elements within the scene

    Color Grading & Creative Direction

Apply color grading styles that enhance mood, tone, and storytelling

Align visuals with branding and creative direction

    Collaboration & Workflow

Work closely with video editors, marketing, and creative teams

    Incorporate feedback and revisions efficiently

Manage multiple projects and meet deadlines

    Quality Control

Ensure visual consistency across clips and final outputs

Review exports for color accuracy and technical quality

    Qualifications

1-2 years of Experience with video editing/color tools (DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or similar)

Strong understanding of masking, tracking, and selective color grading techniques

Knowledge of color theory, lighting, and visual storytelling

Familiarity with video formats, codecs, and export settings

Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently

Portfolio or demo reel showcasing color work (especially masking/recoloring) strongly preferred

    Time Commitment

    Volunteer position

    Remote

    5–10 hours per week

    Minimum over 3-month commitment

    Additional Information

    Flexible schedule with asynchronous work

Must have access to editing software, a computer, and reliable internet

Occasional virtual check-ins may be required
