Position Summary
The Fundraiser Director serves as the chief strategist for PWP’s revenue generation. You are responsible for designing and overseeing the execution of a comprehensive fundraising plan that includes major gifts, corporate sponsorships, special events, and grant funding.
You will lead the development team, ensuring that all fundraising activities are conducted with integrity and transparency, adhering to the ethical standards outlined by the Association of Fundraising Professionals and PWP Board Policy. Operating within the MOCHA framework, you are the Owner (O) of the organization’s financial growth strategy and the Manager (M) of the fundraising team.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning & Leadership
- Strategy Development: Develop and implement an annual fundraising plan to meet the budgetary needs of PWP’s four signature programs (Mentoring, Cotillion, College Prep, Empowerment).
- Team Supervision: Manage and support the Fundraising & Sponsorship Coordinator and Grant Writer, setting clear KPIs for donor acquisition and retention.
- Board Collaboration: Serve on the Fund Development Committee (if established), reporting monthly to the Board on revenue progress versus goals.
Donor Relations & Major Gifts
- Cultivation: Actively engage businesses, donors, and community partners to cultivate long-term relationships and secure major sponsorships.
- Stewardship: Ensure all donor gifts are acknowledged on a timely basis and that restricted gifts are used specifically in accordance with donor requirements.
- Privacy: Uphold strict donor confidentiality; ensure donor lists are never rented, sold, or exchanged with other organizations.
Event Fundraising
- Signature Events: Oversee the financial strategy for major fundraising events, including the End-of-Year Gala, Golf Tournament, and Tea Party.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the Event & Logistics Director to ensure events remain within budget while maximizing net revenue.
Compliance & Ethics
- Ethical Practice: Ensure PWP does not engage in compensation-based fundraising based on a percentage of charitable contributions raised.
- Transparency: Ensure solicitations and promotional materials are accurate, truthful, and clearly describe the programs for which funds are requested.
Outcomes & KPIs
- Revenue Growth: Achieve a year-over-year increase in unrestricted funds by [Insert %] through diversified revenue streams.
- Sponsorships: Secure at least 15+ new sponsorship leads per quarter in collaboration with the Marketing team.
- Event Profitability: Ensure all major fundraising events achieve a minimum ROI of [Insert %] (revenue vs. expense).
- Reporting: Submit detailed financial/fundraising reports to the Treasurer and President by the 1st of each month.
Qualifications
- Experience: 3–5 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, business development, or sales. Experience with capital campaigns or major gift solicitation is highly preferred.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Code of Ethical Standards.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with CRM/donor databases, Microsoft 365, and virtual meeting platforms.
- Communication: Exceptional persuasive writing and public speaking skills for making pitches to corporate sponsors.
Expectations & Commitment
- Time Commitment: Estimated 10–15 hours per week.
- Board Participation: Must attend monthly leadership meetings to present revenue updates.
- Confidentiality: Must sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) regarding donor data and internal financial strategies.
- Conflict of Interest: Must disclose any involvement with vendors or other organizations that do business with PWP to avoid conflicts of interest.
