We are recruiting for our Board of Directors!
ALDEA (Advancing Local Development through Empowerment and Action) is a nonprofit organization with a 50+ year history working to improve the health and well-being of indigenous Mayan families in rural Guatemala, with a particular focus on combating chronic childhood malnutrition. Since 2006, we have partnered with a local organization, ABPD (Asociacion Bienestar, Progreso, Desarrollo), to implement our program in Guatemala. ALDEA is currently engaged in a strategic planning process that we anticipate will broaden our approach to serving indigenous communities in rural Guatemala.
We are committed to further developing and maintaining a Board of Directors that provides effective governance for ALDEA, supports ALDEA’s fundraising activities, and is composed of Directors with diverse experiences, perspectives, skills, cultural backgrounds and lived experiences that enrich the quality of Board thinking, discussions, and decisions. As part of our annual recruitment cycle, at this time the Board is particularly interested in individual candidates who possess one or more of the following attributes:
We especially encourage applications from Guatemalans (living in Guatemala or abroad) and people of Guatemalan descent; individuals who are current or former Guatemalan citizens; young adults (between ages 21-45); individuals who identify as Black, Indigenous, or people of color; LGBTQ+ individuals; and people with disabilities.
TO APPLY: Interested candidates are invited to complete the Application to Serve on the ALDEA Board by April 18, 2025.
If you have questions about board membership or the application process, please contact Governance Chair Narra Smith Cox at narra@aldeaguatemala.org.
