    About Compathos Foundation

Since 2010, Compathos Foundation has advanced environmental stewardship and social well-being through the power of storytelling, education, and community engagement. Building on more than fifteen years of nonprofit leadership, the Foundation has produced award-winning films, educational initiatives, interactive media, public events, and digital platforms that inspire positive environmental and social change.

Our signature initiative, Films for the Planet, is a global streaming platform and event series that connects audiences with award-winning documentaries, filmmakers, scientists, innovators, and thought leaders working to create a more sustainable and compassionate future.

As part of our mission, Compathos Foundation collaborates with award-winning filmmakers, experienced media professionals, educators, scientists, and mission-driven organizations to develop and amplify stories that inspire meaningful action. Through our Fiscal Sponsorship Program, we selectively partner with exceptional independent film and media projects that align with our charitable mission and values.

As our organization continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced financial professional to join our Board of Directors and help guide the Foundation's long-term sustainability while supporting inspiring media projects that create lasting impact.

    Position Summary

The Treasurer is an Officer of the Board of Directors and serves as the Foundation's Chief Financial Officer for governance purposes. This is a leadership role focused on strategic financial stewardship, fiduciary oversight, and nonprofit accountability.

As Compathos relaunches its fiscal sponsorship program, the Treasurer/CFO will have an opportunity to help strengthen and refine the program's financial framework, internal controls, procedures, and reporting practices in collaboration with the Executive Director, bookkeeper, and CPA. During this initial rebuilding phase, the role may include a modest amount of hands-on advisory and capacity-building work beyond traditional Board governance. The goal is to establish sound, practical systems which do not to assume ongoing bookkeeping or day-to-day program administration.

Once established, the Treasurer/CFO will provide Board-level financial oversight for approximately one to two carefully selected fiscally sponsored film or media projects annually, working collaboratively with project producers, the Executive Director, bookkeeper, and CPA to support appropriate stewardship of project funds, financial transparency, accountability, and compliance.

    Responsibilities

    • Attend quarterly virtual Board of Directors meetings.
    • Review periodic financial reports and advise the Board on the Foundation's financial position.
    • Support annual budgeting and long-term financial planning.
    • Help ensure appropriate financial policies, internal controls, and nonprofit compliance are maintained.
    • Review financial information to support informed Board decision-making.
    • Provide governance-level financial oversight for one to two carefully selected fiscally sponsored film or media projects annually.
    • Collaborate with project producers, the Executive Director, bookkeeper, and CPA to monitor project budgets, financial reporting, grant distributions, and compliance with fiscal sponsorship agreements.
    • Promote responsible stewardship of organizational resources, donor funds, and charitable assets.

    Board Service Expectations

    • Participate actively in quarterly Board meetings and strategic planning discussions.
    • Review financial reports and meeting materials in advance.
    • Uphold the Foundation's mission, bylaws, governance policies, and fiduciary responsibilities.
    • Exercise sound, independent financial judgment in the best interests of the organization.
    • Champion transparency, accountability, and ethical nonprofit governance.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience in accounting, finance, nonprofit financial management, business administration, or a related field.
    • Previous experience serving as a Treasurer, Chief Financial Officer, Controller, Finance Committee member, or nonprofit Board member is preferred.
    • Ability to interpret financial statements, budgets, and financial reports.
    • Familiarity with nonprofit accounting, charitable organizations, grant management, or fiscal sponsorship is desirable.
    • Strong collaborative, organizational, and communication skills.
    • Passion for environmental sustainability, storytelling, education, or social impact.
