Board Treasurer – Freedom Youth Yoga

Overview:

The Treasurer serves as the financial steward of Freedom Youth Yoga (FYY), ensuring strong fiscal management and accountability for our growing nonprofit. This board role is essential to sustaining our mission of bringing yoga and mindfulness to youth across Atlanta.

Key Responsibilities:

• Financial Oversight: Monitor the organization’s financial health and ensure accurate and transparent reporting.
• Budgeting: Work with the Executive Director and Finance Committee (if applicable) to prepare, review, and recommend the annual budget.
• Bookkeeping & Accounting: Oversee or perform day-to-day financial recordkeeping, including deposits, bill payments, reimbursements, and payroll if applicable.
• Reporting: Present regular financial statements to the board, highlighting trends, opportunities, and risks.
• Compliance: Ensure timely filing of required local, state, and federal tax forms and maintain compliance with nonprofit regulations.
• Banking & Cash Flow: Manage bank accounts, reconcile statements, and track cash flow.
• Audit & Controls: Help establish and maintain internal controls, and coordinate audits or financial reviews if needed.
• Fundraising Support: Partner with the board and staff to strengthen financial sustainability, including reviewing grant budgets and tracking restricted funds.

Qualifications:

• Experience in accounting, finance, bookkeeping, or related field (CPA or nonprofit experience preferred but not required).
• Strong organizational and analytical skills.
• Commitment to FYY’s mission and willingness to actively engage in board service.
• Familiarity with nonprofit accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks) is a plus.

Commitment:

• Attend quarterly board meetings and finance committee meetings (if formed).
• Provide approximately 5–10 hours per month for financial oversight, bookkeeping, and reporting.
• Serve as an ambassador for FYY’s mission in the community.
