The Volunteer Coordinator supports youth sports programs by recruiting, training, and managing volunteers who help deliver safe, inclusive, and positive athletic experiences for young people.
Key Responsibilities
- Recruit, screen, and onboard volunteers (coaches, assistant coaches, referees, team parents, event helpers)
- Coordinate volunteer schedules for practices, games, tournaments, and events
- Provide orientation, training, and ongoing support to ensure volunteers understand policies, safety standards, and youth development goals
- Serve as the primary point of contact for volunteers, addressing questions, concerns, and conflicts
- Maintain volunteer records, background checks, and compliance documentation
- Collaborate with program staff, coaches, and parents to ensure smooth program operations
- Promote a positive, inclusive, and youth-centered sports environment
- Recognize and retain volunteers through appreciation efforts and feedback
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working with volunteers, youth programs, or nonprofit organizations
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple schedules and priorities
- Comfortable working with families, youth, and community partners
- Commitment to youth development, teamwork, and sportsmanship
- Background in youth sports (playing, coaching, or administration) preferred
