Board Member — Fundraising and Development - Shared-Equity Senior Housing Nonprofit

Boomers Collaborative Foundation is an Austin-based nonprofit advancing a mixed-use, shared-equity housing model that helps older adults age in place together with dignity, stability, and mutual support. We are moving from founder-led development into broader Board and volunteer leadership, and we are seeking committed volunteers who want to help build the systems, relationships, and community engagement needed to bring this model forward.

We are looking for people who care about this work and are willing to learn with us. Relevant experience is helpful, but passion, steadiness, and follow-through matter deeply.

We are seeking a volunteer Board member to help strengthen three areas of our fundraising work—overseeing the rollout of our newly adopted Friends of Boomers Collaborative program, helping us build relationships with institutional supporters, and contributing to grant development.

We have had fundraising efforts begin with promise but stall before becoming the consistent, year-round work Boomers Collaborative needs. The Board recently adopted Friends of Boomers Collaborative, and we are now preparing to incorporate the program into our social media editorial calendar, with posts scheduled through Buffer. This Board member will help oversee the program as it is implemented, monitor its progress, and contribute early-stage input.

The Board member will not be expected to create or personally carry out every aspect of our fundraising work. They will help identify and reach out to prospective institutional supporters and contribute to grant research and writing as appropriate. We would be happy to share our Friends of Boomers Collaborative program plan with prospective candidates who would like to understand it more fully before deciding whether the position is right for them.

Primary responsibilities include

• Monitor the Friends of Boomers Collaborative program and help track its progress
• Identify and conduct outreach to institutions that may be interested in supporting our work
• Research appropriate grant opportunities
• Contribute to grant writing when helpful
• Share findings and recommendations with the President and Board
• Participate in Board discussions and decisions as a voting director

Helpful experience

• Fundraising, institutional outreach, nonprofit development, grant research, grant writing, sponsorships, or community partnerships
• Comfort initiating outreach and helping cultivate relationships
• Strong written communication, organization, and follow-through
• Interest in aging, housing affordability, cooperatives, social enterprise, or community development
• Respect for mission-driven work that is complex, systems-oriented, and still emerging

Location

Austin area preferred. Most meetings are virtual, with occasional local meetings and events.

Board financial commitment

Board members make a tax-deductible financial commitment of $15 per month, or $180 annually. This is a Board giving commitment, not a participation fee.

Final Board assignments are subject to Boomers Collaborative Foundation’s review and approval process.
