Exhibit Tour Guide

Position Overview:

The Before Slavery Museum is hosting a black history exhibit at the Austell City Hall, and would like to find passionate volunteers to serve as tour guide for a black history pop-up exhibit at Austell City Hall and make the exhibit memorable for all visitors. As a tour guide you will be responsible for guiding guests through the small exhibit, sharing insights, historical context, and stories that highlight the rich culture of African Americans before they came to America.

Location: The exhibit is located at Austell City Hall in Austell, Georgia.

Key Responsibilities:

• Engagement: Guide the guests through the exhibit, and in the process explain and point out interesting details. Engage with the guests by sharing insights and anecdotes that enhance the exhibit experience.
• Q and A: Engage with the guests by answering questions and sharing relevant information.
• Space Management: Assist with maintaining visual standards of the exhibit space.
• Training: Participate in a brief training session to learn about the specific exhibit, details, and talking points.
• Post-Exhibit: Assist with packing up the exhibit at the end of the exhibit.

Qualifications:

• Interest and knowledge in black history and social sciences.
• Ability to convey information in an interesting manner
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Pleasant personality with the ability to relate to all ages, and educational levels.
• Creativity and a keen eye for design is a plus.

Requirements:

• Participate in brief training sessions to learn about the specific exhibit, details, and talking points.
• Ability to commit 3 hours per week. The schedule will be flexible based on your availability.
