Our bereavement program offers ongoing support to loved ones after the loss of a patient, ensuring no one has to navigate grief alone. Volunteers play an essential role in helping us stay connected with families throughout their bereavement journey.
Position Overview
We are seeking a caring and reliable Bereavement Mailing Volunteer to assist our team with preparing and sending monthly bereavement mailings to families who have lost a loved one under our care. This role supports one of the most meaningful aspects of hospice: continued emotional support long after services end.
This is a great opportunity for someone who is organized, detail‑oriented, and looking for a quiet, independent volunteer role that truly makes a difference.
Responsibilities
- Assemble and prepare bereavement letters, cards, and resource packets.
- Fold, label, and sort materials for mailing.
- Assist with maintaining mailing lists and organizing materials as needed.
- Work alongside the Bereavement Coordinator to ensure timely distribution each month.
- Maintain confidentiality and follow all HIPAA guidelines.
Qualifications
- Compassionate, dependable, and comfortable supporting families experiencing grief.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently in a calm office environment.
- Willingness to complete hospice volunteer onboarding, including background check and required training.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
Time Commitment
- Approximately 2–4 hours once per month
- Schedule is flexible and can be arranged during normal weekday office hours.
