Healthcare Community Partnerships Advisor- SF Suicide Prevention Walk

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s Greater San Francisco Bay Area Chapter is recruiting a healthcare professional to join the final planning phase of the 2026 San Francisco Out of the Darkness Walk.

The Walk will take place Saturday, September 19th at South Beach Harbor Park along San Francisco’s Embarcadero. It brings together survivors of suicide loss, people with lived experience, families, healthcare professionals, advocates, and community members to raise awareness and funds for suicide prevention. We are seeking a respected and well-connected volunteer who can help activate San Francisco’s healthcare community during the month leading up to the event. This is a strategic outreach and relationship-building role, not a clinical or crisis-support position.

How You Can Make an Impact

Depending on your background and network, you may:

• Invite hospitals, clinics, behavioral health organizations, professional associations, and healthcare companies to participate
• Recruit healthcare departments, employee resource groups, residency programs, or professional teams to walk together
• Introduce AFSP to healthcare leaders who may be interested in sponsorship or community partnership
• Share the Walk with colleagues and encourage participation across clinical and nonclinical departments
• Identify organizations that could provide resources, volunteers, or event-day engagement
• Help strengthen long-term relationships between AFSP and the Bay Area healthcare community

We’re Looking for Someone Who

• Works in healthcare, behavioral health, public health, hospital administration, biotechnology, health insurance, or a related field
• Has relationships with healthcare professionals, institutions, associations, or community health organizations
• Is comfortable making introductions and communicating with organizational leaders
• Has experience in outreach, partnerships, fundraising, employee engagement, or community relations
• Is motivated by the opportunity to advance suicide prevention beyond their professional role

Physicians, nurses, social workers, therapists, public health professionals, administrators, researchers, healthcare executives, and other industry leaders are encouraged to apply.

Time Commitment

Approximately 2-4 flexible hours per week through September 19th, with brief virtual committee check-ins as available. Outreach can primarily be completed remotely.

This is a focused, high-impact opportunity to bring the healthcare community together around suicide prevention, elevate an urgent public health issue, and help more Bay Area residents find connection and hope.
